Chanel’s new Rouge Coco lipstick line includes Rivoli ($30), which I ordered sight unseen from Bergdorf’s.  I have a special affinity for the Rue de Rivoli in Paris, and so I knew I had to have it based on the name alone.

The color is a deep burgundy with the faintest hint of a cool blue-brown.  Honestly, I could not have asked for a more suitable color for my skintone.  I’m completely in love with berry tones.

This review must be short, because Rivoli arrived less than an hour ago.  I did the best I could with the lighting that I have (it’s getting dark here). So far, the lipstick is very lightweight and moisturizing.  It is a little more sheer than some, as easy to apply as a gloss or balm.  I’m very pleased, and I cannot wait to see more colors in the Rouge Coco line.

P.S.:  I had read that Chanel spent particular attention to the “click” that is made when the lipstick cap is closed.  I can report that the click is, indeed, really nice.  There’s a sort of slow-down as the cap gets to closure, then a medium-loud, deep toned and crisp “click” as it closes.  As someone concerned about loose caps that lead to damage to expensive purses, I really appreciate this feature.

  1. What a beautiful berry color! Some of Chanel’s reds are way too bright for me, but that Rivoli looks lovely. Because Rouge Coco is supposedly a step between Aqualumiere and Rouge Allure, there’s definite color but with a lightness to it that is owed more to dimension than transparency. Temptalia has actual on-the-lip swatches of several of the colors that have me counting the days until they’re available at the local Chanel counter. They seem to have nice depth without being heavy or opaque.

    • I think you’re going to love these Eileen- your description is right on the money. The Aqualumieres were too sheer for me–these are indeed more pigmented and they feel much more luxurious. Not as rich as the Rouge Allures. Not as much coverage as a YSL Rouge Volupte, not as sheer as a MAC Lustre. These feel very easy — they apply like a balm. They may not have the lasting power of some lipsticks, but they will be better than most glosses. I can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of the line next week!

  2. OMG – you are my Chanel twin. We love the same things. This looks absolutely stunning. Bravo on being so brave to order this sight unseen! I’ve been stalking the web for photos and have to admit I was tempted to order sight unseen too, but there’s nothing like the experience of testing out new things at the Chanel counter that just arrived.

The 25th can’t come soon enough!

    Love your “click” report 🙂

    • Sabrina, I’m flattered to know that we’re Chanel twins! 🙂 I can’t wait to see more–I find these so easy and add the right amount of color. Just a few more days!
