When Chanel first released the Rouge Allure Laque, I was a an enormous skeptic.  The price seemed too high, the container too small and the colors “seen-them-all-before.”   They were first released in Europe, and I began to notice that many European makeup aficionados were not only buying them, but buying several.

I investigated.

Since then, I’ve become an enthusiastic owner of several.  I find myself using these continuously. I don’t buy as many lip products as some other bloggers seem to.  Rather, I buy fewer but use them up.  I wanted to share one of my favorite summer colors, Ming #76, ($32).  It’s perfect for my makeup bag all summer long.

The packaging is perfect.  The black Chanel tube is always classic and appropriate.  It seems impervious to wear and tear –it still looks brand new although I’ve been using this since November.  Inside is a doe-foot applicator and more product than I expected.  There a quiet, satisfying “click” when the product is closed.  I’ve had no spilling or leaking.

I’ve found that Ming is a very forgiving summer color.  I drink a lot of water, and don’t want to fuss with pencils or layering.  I can swipe it on easily, usually without looking.

It looks like I’ve done more than I have. It gives a pretty pink polished lip.  It gives a nice color  without being too opaque.

Yes, $32 is a lot of a lip product.  In my mind, I justify the price by reasoning that I can wear this easily alone and am very, very likely to use this up as a stand-by every-day color.  So, in my mind it is worth every penny.

  1. Hi Amy, lovely photos! Is that you in the third pic?

LOVE the sunglasses. I have 1 lone pair by Chanel because they are usually too big for my face. Being very round, large sunglasses make my face look even rounder.

LOL about buying fewer lipglosses. Smart girl! I definitely could do without buying another lipgloss for the rest of my life. I have way too many. But it won’t stop me. I love Ming – it’s a great no fuss shade.

    • Hi Sabrina! You are awesome to recognize those glasses! Which sunglasses do you prefer? No that is not me- I am too shy to post myself still. I probably own too many glosses right now too. Now I’m worried that I need to try Dolce & Gabana lipsticks. I’ll have to think about it. FYI someone on Specktra posted that they had gotten Chanel Enigma at their Saks. I called a few but no luck for me yet. I can’t wait to see it.

  2. After reading your Ming comments, I scurried down to my basement and retrieved my own Ming from my vast makeup cache, haha. I bought Ming and Dragon when they first came out. Yes, I agree that you can easily apply Ming; not so the darker shades like Dragon. They require a brush–not a liner as you astutely point out. I like an easy-to-apply lip color. I buy lots of Chanel lipsticks, as well as Bobbi Brown and now Dolce and Gabanna whose quality rivals–even surpasses–the big names. Dragon lasts a long time and I like that. But it is red and I don’t think red lips look good on anyone, especially blondes. I think they are aging. Anyway, the lip color I use the most is Rhubarb Lip Shimmer by Burt’s Bees, believe it or not.

    • I love Dragon! It’s very dramatic–I can only get away with it at night. I have a feeling that one will last forever. And you are soooooo right, that one needs to be applied with care!! :)

  3. Amy, I have purchased the Dolce and Gabanna spring and now the summer makeup collections. They are to die for. Beautiful, exquisite colors for eyes and lips the likes of which I have never seen. I bought the eye duos in dazzling, sky, mystery and now laguna; the eye quads in petal and fabulous; the blush in tan and several lip shines, all recommended by saks for fair-skinned, blue-eyed blondes like me. The shadows last through 3 hours of heavy gym workouts filled with sweat running down my face. The quality surpasses everything else I have ever used, incl. chanel and Bobbi Brown. But I can’t wait for the fall Chanel and BB! I love it all!!!

    • Interesting Susie! Thanks for the pointer. I should try a few things–I’ll look into it. Thank you!!

  4. Bonjour Amy.
I have been wanting to get my paws on this laque! I am wondering how is the staying power? Does it stain the lips? It is shimmery?
    Thank you :)

    • Hi Lee!! :) Ming’s staying power is better than most glosses but not as good as a long-lasting lipstick. A word of caution–I really do drink water all day long to stay hydrated so getting even an hour or two out of a lip product is pretty good for me. Ming is right in the middle of the lasting scale on me–the texture is on the thinner side, but I like the lighter feel of it (compared to a lipstick). If long-lasting is a top priority for you, you’d do well to keep looking.

The nice thing about Ming is that the shimmer is very very micro-small so it looks sophisticated. If you click on the arm-swatch you can see how small the shimmer is. So the look on the lips is glossy but no glittery bits (like some other glosses). It’s glossier than most lipsticks.

      I hope this helps! :)

      • PS Lee–there is no staining that I’ve detected. This is true even with the very highly pigmented Dragon.

  5. I completely agree. I love love love Chanel lip lacquer, glossimers, aqualumiere glosses, and rouge allures. The colors are beautiful and the feel on the lips is divine. Ming looks gorgeous on your lips. Glad to find another Chanel lover =)

    • JC-thank you for your comment! I clicked over to your blog and really enjoyed it!! You obviously know a lot about makeup! Safe travels home! :) Best, Amy

  6. Amy, I’m in love with the Rouge Allure Laque line as well. I currently have Phoenix and Mandarin (both purchased when I was a redhead), but now that I’m a brunette, I’m thinking Ming may be in my future. It looks gorgeous on you! You hit it spot-on when you mentioned the wearability , lasting power and ease of application…in my opinion, these are an almost-perfect lip product. Then again, I’m also addicted to Rouge Coco’s and Glossimers. I’m hopeless, I guess.

Thanks for the great review! I always love reading your blog, as I’m definitely a Chanel addict, and you have never steered me wrong!

  7. I wanted to LOVE this but it left my lips raw and chapped the next day. I will stick to my Rouge Coco/glossimers!
