Five Things I’m Loving Right Now

August 31, 2010

I’ve noticed a tradition of some beauty bloggers, who do a month-end wrap of “10 Things I’m Loving Right Now,” to let readers know which products are getting the most use.  In some ways, I find those posts the most valuable because it helps me understand which products have taken center stage, and so worth checking out for myself.  As August nears its close, I thought that I’d give this format a try:

1.   Chanel Flat Powder Brush (European)— Reviewed here. Used with Caron powder, this brush gives me a perfect airbrush finish.  Amazing, soft feel and very natural application.  A great investment.  If you can’t get this one soon, perhaps look at the MAC equivalent–which I haven’t tried but which seems to be a similar shape.

2.  Edward Bess Daydream Bronzer— Reviewed here.  I love this on a train, I love this in the rain, I love this in a boat or when wearing a coat…you get the picture.  Always looks amazingly natural and beautiful.  The Perfect Bronzer.  Times ten.

3.  Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Confidence—  Reviewed here.  Can you bottle confidence?  No, but you can put it in a heavy glass tube with a doe-foot applicator.  Always looks wonderful.  Here it is worn by January Jones at the 2010 Emmys:

4.  Burberry Foundation—  Love the finish and ease of using this foundation.  It lasts all day, although it is a very lightweight foundation.  This can be layered for extra coverage where needed.  Well worth investigating.  Swatches are here.

5. Butter London All Hail McQueen— reviewed here.  I’m the last person to ever expect to enjoy wearing a holographic polish.  But I’m going to have to buy a second one of these soon.  The color is so on-trend, it’s a very light taupe/griege.  Indoors, the holographic quality doesn’t show, it’s only when the nail is hit by light that it turns magical.  Easy, perfect application.

So tell us what you are loving right now?

Lovely picks, and a novel in response:

Well, would you believe it? I ordered butter LONDON’s All Hail McQueen (and discovered a whole new brand to go with it, woohoo, I couldn’t resist ordering two more colours with my last purchase: Hoorah Henri, a vanilla beige, and Blowing Raspberries, a cool light berry red) based on your review and pictures, and fell in love so hardcore with it I will weep waterfalls of lady tears when they stop selling it. I loved my first application so much, I currently own half a dozen bottles, and it’s my favorite manicure colour. Didn’t think I’d enjoy anything sparkly or holographic, but this one’s perfect and always appropriate. With its, you’re right, perfect application, it holds a special place on my “loving right now” list. #1.

I have a hard time deciding on four more. I love most of my beauty products. I did, however, develop a mild obsession with the new Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum Could The Name Be Longer (I’m looking at you, HR), which has promoted my lash growth and strength like no other product or supplement has before. It’s more of a serum to me than a lash base/primer, but does a fine job at the latter, too. Ditching my Lancôme Cils Booster for it. #2.

#3: Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Mauve Shimmer Ink (23), a cool, very slightly shimmery dark brown with minimal hints of mauve/eggplant (misleading name). It’s my first gel eyeliner, still getting used to the application but it stays on forever. Perfect colour for my complexion. Will repurchase.

#4: Today was my first application of a MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre. With no access to a local MAC Counter, this was a risky purchase for me, but what a reward! Ditching my Artdeco eyeshadow base for it. That one sparkles. This one evens out my lid colour nicely and has the colour stay where I put it.

#5 is my Chanel Kaska Beige quad. Perfect mauves in it, I can’t really wear black. Ran out of the lightest colour fast, barely showed up on the lid at all. I’m curious whether to repurchase or even get Enigma… I don’t really need the green in it, and I own the Taupe Grise Ombre Essentielle.

I finally ordered some higher quality brushes – proud owner of the MAC 182, 187 and 217 now, and I do most of my powder work with the 182, commonly a buffer brush if I recall correctly… Is a flat powder brush (by which I mean to say, this one) worth the investment?

    1. Giorgio Armani Eyes to kill Mascara – all I need to say is length + volume.
    2. Nars Deep Throat eyeshadow – really loving the subtle colour of pink/coral/shimmer it gives to my cheeks.
    3. Chanel Rose Dillema & Rose Dentelle – My favourite pink combo for my lips.
    4. Mac Painterly paintpot – great as a matte base and making shadows pop.
    5. Lunasol palettes – I finally understand why people loves these palettes so much albeit I think it’s because I put down Mac Painterly paintpot as a base but still, I love the sheerness and shimmer of these. I think it could be a dangerous thing for me to Lunasol so much.

Oh, so that was what January Jones was wearing on her lips! I was intrigued and thought it was a Nars matte lipstick. I’m sure Extrait de Gloss will be in my monthly favourites next time round.

As you say, these kind of posts are very helpful – and it’s so much fun seeing what loves you share! I’m still waiting to check out Burberry next month but in the meantime and in no particular order of my passion for them;-

    1) Guerlain kisskiss baby in Rosy Nude. A cushiony balm with a beautiful pink tint in a Guerlain case! What’s not to love?
    2) YSL fard a joues cream blush in shade #2 pink – Limited edition from last year – BOO!!!!!!!
    3) T. LeClerc click pen eyeshadow in Taupe Nacre. So easy to apply and wear.
    4) Laura Mercier brow pencil in blonde, even though I’m not.
    5) Armani Eyes to Kill mascara. ‘Lash Artillery’ – Great name, Great product.

That gloss does indeed look fantastic on January Jones, but after trying and hating one too many Chanel products I’ll enjoy the picture some more and pass on trying it myself!

Hi Amy, thanks for your lovely blog. I think we are beauty twins. Here is my list:
    1. Burberry Shadows in Porcelain & Chestnut. I love the texture and wear. I have yet to use a primer and I have had no creasing or fading for a whole work day. (cheated with two products, but this creates a 5 minute neutral work eye on my YSL #13 skin.) My BA at South Coast Nordstrom’s told me that after feedback from BA’s, Burberry will add extended foundation colors to its line perhaps next year. I hope it’s true because what you describe is exactly what I look for in a foundation. Until then I plan to add the lavender blue and black shadows to my collection.
    2. My Chanel Bronzer in Terre Halee. I use it as regular powder/touch up instead of bronzer. I hate that the color is LE but I doubt if I will use this up in a few year of daily use. I little goes a long way.
    3. Chanel Rouge Allure Lip in Emotive
    4. Chanel Rouge Allure Extract de Gloss in Emoi. This combo has created so many “where did you gets..”
    5. Melvita cleanser, toner, & perfecting treatment. I’ve been trying to cut back on spending on skincare, while remaining as natural and organic as possible. This never line from France has phenomenal products. I am very pleased with my results. Missing some Darphin products, but not enough to stop using these.
