A gasp-worthy palette released this holiday is Dior Five Golds ($58 / 5 Couleurs Gold Edition/ 5-Color Eyeshadow /001), a shimmering beautiful magical confection.  Every once in a while, Dior releases a palette that takes my breath away.  Dior Five Golds is one of those incredible palettes.

I have been looking for this palette since I saw this picture on Fab Over Forty.  I actually called the Nordstrom where this lovely blogger found it, but they had nothing that day in stock to sell.  After being told that Dior had production problems, I gave up hope until The Beauty Look Book told me that Sephora had the palette up for sale.  I knew I had to get it.

The box is redesigned for this collection with a black and gold theme:

The palette is the familiar deep blue with the embedded Christian Dior initials:

Inside is an absolutely beautiful palette of glowing, shimmering shades.  This is absolutely perfect, gives you a wide variety of shades, and the buttery smoothness of this palette makes this a pleasure to use:

Close up, you can see how much dimension and shimmer these colors hold:

Here the line up:

  • The bottom left leaves a shimmery, fairy-like sheet of gold shimmer.  The sparkle is very fine, and acts almost magically to catch the light.
  • The bottom right is a deep brown copper with slight gold-burgundy undertones
  • The center silver is a beautiful cool metallic metal shimmer
  • The top right is a multi-dimensional coppery gold brown
  • The top left is a deep grey with slight blue sparkle

The pigmentation, quality and softness of these shadows is excellent.  Really, this is one of those amazing high-shine palettes that Dior does so beautifully.  Highly recommended, a thousand times yes.

  1. Hi Amy! I’m so glad you found this too! It was meant to be for us. Beautiful photos. I can’t wait to use this palette again tomorrow :)

  2. Thank you Sabrina, for the pointer to Sephora!! It’s greatly appreciated! This month has been so busy for me, where would I be without my fellow beauty bloggers to help! I loved your review of this palette!

  3. I can’t wait to buy this! So pretty! :)

  4. Oh my goodness this is so beautiful! Great photos. The more pictures I see the more I think I shouldn’t pass this one up! :) I will put the Sephora Friends & Family discount to good use :)

  5. Frankly, Amy, I must confess that I don’t understand why Holiday palettes have so much bronze and copper, it is so unflattering on cooler toned skin. And who is going to wear all this glitter?

    • This year does seem to be bronze and copper heavy, Goya. I have to admit that I’ll wear this palette–although I don’t love glitter for daytime, I do think it can work for parties and dinners. Also, the glitter in this palette does seem to be relatively finely milled –it’s not Urban Decay Maui Wowie-type. Keep in mind that these pictures are quite close up, as Liz has said after seeing swatches in real life and then on the blog, “Wow mom that lens you use is intense.” Having said all that, this palette may not work at all for you (or cooler toned ladies) so I really appreciate your comment. My feeling is that women make the decision to spend $50+ on eyeshadow carefully, especially if they are shopping online. I’m grateful that you posted because your comment may help someone decide that this isn’t for her! :)

      • I really appreciate your understanding, Amy, since while reading all kinds of excited comments regarding these pallets I was feeling pretty weird :) . On the contrary though-when I saw Chanel’s spring quad I was seriously excited: at long last a pallet without browns and violets :)

  6. This is even more gorgeous than i anticipated. I can’t wait to get my hands on this.

  7. Gorgeous. The only palette I have is the Night Butterfly. I might have to make this palette #2!

  8. This is too coppery for me. But looks pretty for others that aren’t as pale…

  11. This is a gorgeous palette. I can’t wait to see it in person in three weeks :-( Just looking at the swatches, this will be added to my mini collection of dior quints. Thank you for sharing.
