Chanel Nail Polish

Chanel Le Vernis Riva

November 26, 2010

When I first applied Chanel Riva Nail Polish ($27 148.277 Le Vernis Nail Color Riva), I was transported to a cruise on a Chanel ship, in the Mediterranean near Cannes.

This is a soft baby blue with a hint of green, touched with blue-purple iridescence that shows in direct sunlight.  Very fresh on pale skin, I suspect this would look amazing on very dark skin tones as well.  The color is suspended in a gel base.

It takes three coats to build the color, the pigment is suspended in a gel that lets a hint of light through the layers.  Somehow Chanel Riva manages to look expensive, while the one-coat lighter pastels by other brands can look like house paint.   I’m glad I bought five.  To each her own.

Love this review. You described it so beautifully. It goes well with your skintone! Beautiful pictures as always 🙂

You bought five? Seriously? – I am NOT judging, just asking 🙂
You know what upsets me a bit? Three coats is a lot of work and I’m lazy, and I don’t think a product that expensive should require so much work.
Or maybe I’m just telling myself that story so I won’t run and buy it :-s

I seriously did-I do have a nail-polish loving daughter and don’t forget the Holidays approach! I’m not sure I’ll give them all away now that I love the color so much–I’ll have to see! 🙂

I’ve read other reviews on this new shade from Chanel, but those reviews or pictures left me feeling rather ho hum about this color, but not your! you really captured the glow of this polish(I can even see the blue-purple iridescence in the first shot) ! After seeing that,it makes me want to go out and buy 5 bottles too 🙂

Completely agree Amy, I think this will look best on pale and dark hands. I am very pale too and love it. It looks so much better on me than Nouvelle Vague did.

Hello! I love this review and I love Riva!! I wish I bought backups as this is the best sky blue color ever!

Off topic but are you loving Guerlain peau de Lingerie more than Parure Gold? Which one gives a better “glow”? Your input is greatly appreciated. I love your blog:)

I haven’t purchased Lingerie–but I have tried it. The Parure Gold is the one I’ve been using and is absolutely the more glowy of the two. Parure Gold has more coverage also. I hope this helps! 🙂

What a lovely review! I have my bottle at home but haven’t tested it out yet. I’m looking forward to it! Did you notice that Chanel is also releasing a new eyeshadow quad with this resort collection, Promesse? It looks like it might have been an Asian exclusive quad from a prior summer collection. It looks so pretty with pastel pink, blue and green with a coppery brown. So St. Tropez!

Oh interesting Bina–I did notice there were some new items up-thank you for giving me some background on the Promesse quad. I completely agree–it looks promising!! (I am wishing I were in St. Tropez right now!!) 🙂 Take care!
