Today in Paris, Chanel presented its Fall 2011 Ready to Wear Collection. The theme was described by various sources as apocalyptic, dark, and “Lord of the Rings,” the stage was lined with steaming volcanic ash and white smoke. The clothes were a consistent palette of grey, white and black, with only an occasional splash of red and green.
The cover of the invitation to the show at the Grand Palais:

The stage:

Peter Philips, Creative Director of Chanel Makeup, and beauty genius (these glasses made me fall a little bit more in love with him):

His makeup table, which includes some metallic cream eyeshadows. These are not part of the permanent line, and I’m hoping that we’ll see these released later this year. And look at that smokey, shimmery nail polish–are you dying? I’m dying!!!

I don’t remember seeing a metallic cream shadow from Chanel since 2003-2004. Here’s the breakdown:
- Face: Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15, Poudre Universelle Libre Natural Finish Loose Powder, Eclat Lumiere Highlighting Face Pen, Correcteur Perfection Long Lasting Concealer
- Eyes: Illusion d’Ombre in Epatant, Mirifique, and Fantasme (available July 2011), Le Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Definer in Khaki Platine (available July 2011), Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Ebene, Crayon Sourcils (available July 2011), and Inimitable Mascara in Noir
- Lips: Le Crayon Levres Precision Lip Definer in Natural, Rouge Allure Velvet in La Furtive (available November 2011)
- Nails: Le Vernis Nail Colour in Graphite (available July 2011)
According to Style.com, Philips used
Épatant, a gunmetal shade from his new-for-autumn Illusion d’Ombre cream eye shadow collection, which he mixed with two of the range’s other shimmering shades in white and black to create the focal point of the look. “They come with an applicator, but I prefer to use my finger,” Philips said of the mousse-y pigments, which can go on thick for opacity or sheered out for transparency. “You can actually use it as an eyeliner, too,” he pointed out—dipping an angled brush into the sparkling onyx pot and scrawling it across the upper lash line. A similar smudged line was drawn using Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner in Ébène below the lower lash line before Philips whipped on a few coats of its Inimitable Waterproof mascara in Noir.
The looks were all soft, metallic smoke on the eyes, lined in gray. Lips were near-matte (is this the new Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet formula at work)? The blush was barely perceptible.

I’ll post more details as they are released, for now let’s enjoy the show. You can see the nails a bit here below. My impression is that this is a metallic color similar to Black Pearl. I die.

Instantly iconic.

So classic and modern. So Chanel.

More details about the nail polish from Style.com: The name is called Graphite, which has an “amazing iridescent quality in which it appears green-gold and shimmering pewter all at once” which is significantly lighter and brighter than Black Pearl. There will be two other shades released with Graphite, and I cannot wait for them!

Some looks from Chanel Ready to Wear Fall 2011. There’s something very protective about these clothes, sort of “life during wartime.” Pants, flats, shoes and boots with discernible soles. Only a few simple black heels, very classic. I wanted every long jacket and every slim pant.

Well, dear reader–what do you say? Do we love it, or do we love it not?

Amy-
OMG I love, love, love the eye makeup and nail polish. The polish looks to me like a smokey olive green. I have been searching for makeup details on this all day and you always come through, even when you are away! Thank you so much!
I love the metallic eye shadows! I also love love love the clothes!
Not a fan of the clothes this time. Loved the Byzantine pre-fall collection though.
But the makeup is stunning…I love it!
Hi, Amy!
Are the ferrules on Chanel brushes sold in the US silver- or gold-colored?
Thanks!
In the US they are gold colored!
This is my type of makeup! Love the elegant glamour that is so do-able. The nail polish — well, yes! The clothes — I’m enamoured of the lines and the tailoring and just the pop of colour. But looking at dark tones and black when I’m longing for spring and summer does not excite me.
But what a thrilling experience for you, Amy! Thanks for sharing the luxe with us.
Amy,
My daughter, who received Haute Chocolat as a gift, thinks that the finish of the Graphite nail polish will be very similar to the one of that coveted shade.
have you see this Amy?
Thank you xiao! You’re a sweetheart! (it’s added now)
Is the khaki platine shade a moss green shade or more a brownish moss?
