Guerlain Ombre Fusion Havana Review and Swatches

May 10, 2011

Guerlain Summer 2011 Terracotta line includes the Ombre Fusion Water-Resistant creme eyeshadow in 02 Havana ($35) a browned-khaki cream with bronze shimmer.  How did this green-eyed girl wind up with another khaki eyeshadow?  Fortunately, this is one of the prettiest.  I only wish I’d known that before purchasing the others!

As with Maya and Bahia, Havana is a gorgeously-textured cream.  If you look closely at the swatch, above, you’ll see a fair amount of bronze shimmer and undertone which sets this one apart.   If you like this color, you’ll love this shadow.

Here are some comparisons:

The brownish tones of Havana really show with the light swatch, far left. Havana is creamier than the liquid Chanel Ombre D’eau in Torrent in the middle, but similar in color tone.  The powder single Chanel Ombre Essentielle in Khaki is a softer, powder finish.  Also pictured at the far right is Bobbi Brown’s Shimmerwash in Golden Leaf (limited edition and no longer available).

Generally, I think that this trio from Guerlain (Bahia, Maya and Havana) are the best summer trio since the Tajine metals (although the smoky pigment set that included Holy Smoke were pretty nice too).   These types of special, star products are well worth a look.  Unlike some makeup companies that have flash limited editions that sell out in days, I expect that Guerlain’s Ombre Fusion will be on counter at least for several more weeks.  These are easy, no fuss summer shades.  Most days, a swipe or two of Maya and I’m out the door.  They will look awesome with summer tans or a bronzed look, together with a nice clear summer lip (a coral, shimmer peach of pink).  Highly recommended.

These are very pretty! Do they crease on you without a primer? Are they long lasting? And do you think that this lipgloss-like tube is practical or should I stick with MUFE aqua creams?
    Thank you!

These last all day on me without a primer. I don’t usually have much of a problem with eye shadow lasting– unlike lip products, it is unusual when something starts fading or creasing

hi- just wanted to let you know I tried to peek at your site but accidentally typed in cafemakeup.blogspot.com Not sure but it looks like you have an imposter. One who doesn’t know the difference between break and brake?

LOL! Thanks for the tip. They will be in a world of hurt if they start poaching content!

Another really pretty colour. I love the flecks of shimmer in these creams, they make the colours really special and you can see they’ll be shown off beautifully in summer light. Thanks for sharing your swatches x

hi amy!! i know colour can be subjective and of personal taste but, i’d like your expert advice. i’m extremely fair and my hairdresser decided to make me a brunette which, accentuates my paleness. i have blue eyes and, i never tan. i bought the new guerlain bronzer and the terra indigo eyeshadow quad. i’m still not sure i like them on me and the bronzer really doesn’t show well on me. anyway, the makeup artist used havana on me with the sable lipgloss. i felt and looked like a member of the addams family!! i’m not sure if i should purchase maya or keep the new summer collection from chanel. i’m not crazy about any of them but, i’m running out of spring collection. which would you suggest best suits someone pale. i noticed that you wrote these creme shadows would look very nice with a tan. i think havana with the sable gloss would be better for me in fall??? otherwise i’ll need to amp up the blush, thankyou amy for your time!! xo p.s. i wish i hadn’t missed the guerlain g blush for spring. that’s probably what i’d wear for summer. i can’t find it anywhere.

Wendy, it sounds as if you aren’t happy with your items. Why don’t you return them? Overall, the Chanel collection seems sheerer for summer, perhaps you are more comfortable with sheerer colors? The main thing is whether you like the look of the products on you- do they boost your confidence? If not, I would pass them by. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of new things to try in the Fall. You don’t need things that make you look like the Addams family!
