Chanel Fall 2011 is a pivotal Chanel collection. This appears to be a time when many products were added to the permanent line, adding several needed items and exploring some new textures and formulas.  I love when established companies innovate, so if you hear someone shouting from their rooftops, c’est moi!

The sheer size and scope of the collection is notable.  Although The Nonblonde suggests that “they’re overdoing it,” to me, more Chanel is more Chanel. The critical question is this–can you ever have too much Chanel?

I think you can have too much football, or fishing.  Or tequila.  Maybe even too much MAC.  But we have a long way to go until we get to that point. For me, Chanel makes the bumps in life’s roads a little easier.  I’d fill my bathtub with it and want more.  Maybe I’ll be in Chanel rehab with Dr. Drew someday.  We’ll see.  Until then, I’m going with what works.

Let’s review the collection, before I get to my favorites:

  1. I think prelude is the standout for me, and maybe graphite.

  2. LOL “more Chanel is more Chanel.” Very true. I really love the Illusion d’Ombre eyeshadows and the nail polishes from this collection, but erm, it’s Chanel! I have yet to make my first purchase from them b/c I have a feeling that once it starts, I will go down a very bad road and be tempted to get more and more xD

  3. Ah yes if I had the funds then the more Chanel the better!! Unfortunately I’m finding it hard to keep up this season. Great thing about that though is so many items are permanent so in the end I suppose I can’t really complain after all 😉

  4. I love Graphite and Peridot. I unexpectedly love Prelude: the darkest color pulls warm purple/plum on my eyes and I love it! I can even wear the taupes in the quad, which is unusual for my skin tone. I love Epatant and Illusoire, and expect to buy the black Mirifique. They are indeed shiny, as some have said, but if used in moderation, I think I can pull them off. The Platine pencils drags on my eyelid, so I passed it up, sadly. (Any advice on that? I’ve tried various primers, but nothing works.) The lipsticks and glosses didn’t appeal to me this season, but that’s OK. I bought more than my share from the summer collection.

    • Hi Ava–for Platine, I don’t use it on my upper lid as the color is so light. I’ve been using it smudged under my lower lashline–have you tried that? It may work better….

  5. I bought the Illusion d’Ombres in Fantasme, Epatant and Mirifique, along with Le Vernis in Graphite and Peridot…I LOVE IT ALL. However, if I had to choose, I absolutely love Epatant and Graphite, although Peridot is an amazing, innovative shade. Graphite is just the most beautiful polish I have found. When I have it on I can’t stop looking at it, especially out in the sun…it transforms from a greenish shade indoors, similar to Epatant, into a spectacular silver!

  6. My favorites were Illusoire eyeshadow and Graphite nail polish. I love that they are coming out with so many pretty color choices and options for different tastes and preferences.

  7. Thank you for the great reviews and recommendation! Ok, my money will go to Epatant and Illusoire, and the Prelude quad. But since all of them are added to the permanent line, i will wait for the next 20% off at my local department store before I get them. 🙂

  8. Chanel makes some truly excellent products, but I would disagree that they are being innovative. I think I decided against buying anything from their fall collections because I felt so exhausted by the redundancy of the shades (maybe I own too much makeup at this point). But I tend to be more puritanical towards my own habits of acquisition; it’s not intended as a judgement of others. Whenever a brand alters its marketing, its products, its image—be it ever so slightly—there will always be people who will be delighted, and people who will not.

  9. So far I have the nail polishes in Graphite and Quartz– I absolutely adore Quartz and could easily wear it everyday. I’m a bit on the fence about the Prelude quad, but I saw from your other post that it is going to be part of the permanent line, so I guess I have plenty of time to decide.

I would love it if there had been some lighter textured lip products in this release, but I guess it is a Fall collection after all!
