Here’s what three things I’m obsessed with this week:

First, Anna Wintour –well, yes in general.  Also, the fact that she just won the Legion of Honour in France.  And the fact that she wore a new Chanel couture suit the day after the same design walked the Chanel Paris Couture Show for Fall/Winter 2011-2012.

Tuesday on the Runway

I find her so fascinating.   I admire her many accomplishments and her strength.

Second, this advice from backstage at one of the shows at Paris Fashion Week.  Words to live by…

Third, Chanel Illusion D’Ombre eyeshadows.  I’ve worn Mirifique as a liner every day since I first opened it.  Today I wore it with a dab of Emerveille, and loved it.  Emerveille gave a slight gold-peach gold to my lids.  As I wore the combination throughout the day, my skin warmed the products.  The sharp line between the liner and Emerveille got a touch softer throughout the day.  I actually liked the combination more the longer I wore it.  With no base, plenty of great wear time with these–Mirifique stayed on my top lashline where it belonged.  Emerveille looks peachy, shimmery, soft and pretty for 10 hours.  I’m obsessed.

I’ve noticed that Shiseido has announced a line of shimmery creme eyeshadows to replace their current Hydropowder line, due out this Fall 2011.

For a preview, see Rouge Deluxe’s overview here and here.  I wonder how they will compare to Chanel’s Illusion D’Ombre?

  1. Such an exquisite jacket, and she’s got the presence for it. I don’t know why people bash Wintour so much. She seems like a savvy businesswoman in an insanely competitive industry who just wants people to do their jobs. How does that make her a b*tch?

    • Sadly, Wintour’s personality doesn’t make her a b*tch – the fact she has that personality and is female does… Men are not expected to be sweet and accommodating and deferent the way women are.

That said, I can’t say I’d want to work for her – like Lagerfeld and legions of other highly-successful executives in all industries, this level of success typically is accompanied by massive egos and attitudes that match their work ethic and talent.

Love the jacket – and the advice to the models… “Don’t Run” at the bottom made me chuckle – hopefully it made the models smile too!

  2. I had never given much thought to Anna Wintour until I saw The September Issue when it first came out. Until then, in my mind, she seemed to be the imperious boss from hell whom so many insiders loved to hate. I think the movie did a lot to dispel that and showed where a lot of that jealousy and animosity was coming from. She’s brilliant, savvy, “tranchante”, sophisticated, nurturing (yes, you read that right), steadfast, focused, etc. Has she made enimies? Oh, yeah! Has she made allies? To be sure! But friend or foe, they’d all agree that she is a force with which to be reckoned. Congratulations Anna! You are quite an original.

  3. I need to copy down that runway advice and put it in my pocket and look at it every day before I walk out the door. 🙂

  4. Loved this post! Did you have the honor and joy of attending the show? If yes, I’m happy and a wee green with envy!

    • Oh, no Debbi–I don’t have that kind of access! That would be lovely, but I just watch from afar!! 🙂 Best, Amy
