Chanel Eyeshadow Quad in Lagons ($57 #29 Chanel Les 4 Ombres/ Ombres a Paupieres Quatuor) was released with Chanel’s Sophisticated Eye Collection.  Its counterpart was released in Asia and Europe earlier this year, although in the baked formula.  This most recent release of Lagons has the familiar soft and pigmented texture designed for sale in the U.S.  Each color pan has a soft shimmery effect that gives a dreamy blue effect.

There is no true white or cream in Chanel Lagons, all the tones are shades of blue:

  • Top left:  A lightly shimmered sky blue
  • Top right:  A more intensely shimmered medium slate/ heather blue
  • Bottom left:  An intense midnight blue with subtle sparkle
  • Bottom right: An intensely shimmered medium blue with visible clear microsparkle
Here is the promotional image released with the European collection, which shows the dreamy blue effect of Lagons:

These colors are sophisticated.  Although they can be applied intensely, Chanel manages to make this all-blue quad look appropriate on a woman.  The texture is excellent–it is creamy and melts into the skin.

Here is a comparison with Chanel Bleu Celestes (#92):

Swatches:

I’m not a fan of blue eyeshadows, and an entire palette of them is not something that I would have explored.  My eyes are blue-green, and my skin-tone is warm.  Somehow, these colors do not fight with my natural eye color.  Although the blue looks slightly more dramatic on my warm skintone compared to a beiges and browns, the colors are flattering.  These colors have a subtle little kick.

If you love blues, you’ll love Lagons.  If you don’t like blues, you might consider Lagons if you have a counter nearby.  It is the most friendly blue eyeshadow quad that I have seen in a while.  Highly wearable, dreamy blues don’t come my way everyday.

  1. The blues were very pretty but alas, with blue eyes, it didn’t seem a wise purchase. Te purple on the other hand, all mine!

  2. I’m not a huge fan of blue eyeshadows either. Light blue eyeshadows usually make me look clownish, but the Chanel Eyeshadow Quad looks stunning. I usually do a smokey eye look when I’m using blue eyeshadows. It just makes it more wearble for me. =)

  3. What dreamy blues! I think the palette swatches better than it looks. I especially love slate / heather complexity of the third blue in your swatch.

  4. I have Blue Notes. I don’t know why but I’ve never worn it. That was…..eight or so years ago? I’ll have to take it to compare. No reason in particular that I haven’t worn it; I just buy too much and travel too often to get around to trying everything.

I just looked and wow, I reviewed Blie Notes on MUA in July of 2003!! So long ago. So much money to sit unloved. I really look forward to comparing these.

  6. hi amy!!! thankyou very much for your wonderful review. but, i wanted your opinion on this…..i went to nordstroms to look at this new collection. unfortunately, my eye catches everything! the promo picture on display looked familiar. jac, the model, is wearing some kind of beautiful gold jacket etc. why did this look familiar to me? because, i really do believe it’s the same picture from the inimitable intense mascara collection last year. remember they had new duos? for me, i want the look that is presented on the model. and, if you look closely at the pics and videos you can clearly see she’s wearing pink shimmery eye colour as well. my thoughts…last years blue eye duo with new twilight single shadow. even though chanel states she’s wearing lagons only. i feel it’s the same picture different pose. i love chanel too but, this makes me somewhat weary.it could really be that duo since her eyes are only lined in blue. i’m not sure why i’m making a production out of this? thanks amy for your awesome reviews!! xo

  7. Wow, they’ve done it again – I love Lagons, and I DON’T love blues normally! Definitely for me when it’s eventually released in the UK. Btw – received blog sale compact – LOVE IT – thank you so much :)

    • Well I re-read the article and realised that it was already released in the UK! So, I just happened to be walking through Bentalls in Kingston upon Thames, and just happened to buy it! Anyway – it’s a wonderful selection of colours, so thanks for the recommendation!

  8. It is very pretty for blues but unfortunately I don’t wear blues. Looking forward to your review on Vanites. I keep hearing how different it is from the original, not only in texture but also in color.

  9. Amy, how do you apply this quad? Thank you!

  10. I am also not a fan of blue eyeshadow and as pretty as the new set looks, I won’t be purchasing.

  11. Hi amy!!!
I love this post.. I got this quad like few months ago (i’m in asia btw) and I love the color so muchh!!! I did a review on this palette in my blog as well :)

btw do u know why some quad are round shape (mine is round shape), while others are in rectangular shape?
    thanks amy!!

  12. Love this quad. I too, was sucked in by the promo pic and wondered the same thing regarding the quad vs. blue liner ect. I even called the chanel websites number and the person stated she thought it was the purple quad… hmmmm. Looks blue to me. I don’t think she even knew what it was. Wish they would list the products with the promo pics :)

  13. Believe it or not, but I found my Jeans de Chanel from 2003! It’s still beautiful but I’m wondering how those colors compare to there….
    Love the blog, BTW.
