Guerlain Ecrin 4 Couleurs in Les Perles

September 21, 2011

Guerlain Ecrin 4 Couleurs in Les Perles ($59 / #08) is a pearly, shimmery glowing palette of gorgeous color.  The colors include:

  • On the left, a shimmery pearl-oyster beige-gray (Guerlain does these types of colors really well)
  • On top center, a soft white pearl
  • On bottom center, a deep, multifaceted richly pigmented burgundy-purple
  • On the right, a pearly soft light pink
This was my favorite palette so far from the Guerlain Ecrin 4 Couleurs line.  The pigmentation and coloring is beautiful. It gives a lovely, luminous effect.  I didn’t find any comparable palettes in the Ecrin 6 Couleurs palette line.  Here, the colors:
Liz and I found application was very easy.  The colors blended well, and were easy to lay down on the lid with a soft brush.  The texture was smooth and luminous.  We had excellent wear time as well.  Neither of us is very consistent using a base, but we both found that the color held up well all day without one.
Lis used the pink pearl (right) as her base color.  She used the gray (left) in the outer half of the eye, and the burgundy (lower center) in her crease very softly.  Then she placed the white in her inner corner.
We loved the glow of Guerlain Les Perles.  It gives a delicate look without too much heavy color.  We absolutely loved this palette.

Lovely, beautiful colours. I think these are true basics and I also wish there weren’t so expensive. Do you know if Guerlain also made “les Bleues”? I’m actually looking for some good blue tones but it’s very difficult to find a blue that fits me.

      Yes. Karlasugar has swatches

Chanel Lagons is another beautiful blue- not as intense as Guerlains blue palette.

Of all the new Guerlain quads that Liz has modeled so far, I think Les Perles is by far the prettiest look I’ve seen on her. The soft blend of colors really suit her and the pearlescent glow she achieved is just gorgeous. Les Perles is an interesting take on fairly neutral shades. At first glance, they appear pretty basic but swatching them right next to each other instantly reveals their complexity. In the same way that fine pearls are actually a blend of colors subtly mixed to give an over-all impression of color, so are Les Perles. Guerlain is able to create complex, opalescent colors that stand apart in the pan, but when applied, enhance each other in a way that reinforces the color theme of the palette to subtle perfection. This one is definitely a keeper.

    Hi Amy,

Thanks again for another timely review. I was debating to get the Armani Fall eye palette – the purple got my eyes, but the texture was a bit hard. It looks like Les Perles is the answer to my purple search.

I have always enjoyed your reviews. Your voice added so much to makeup blogs. Thanks again.

Love these!! Now im considering this palette too. Such pretty look.
Do you know how the effect of these compares Ombres Perles- Chanel’s last spring quint?
Is it worthy to have both?

Liz and I thought there were a lot of similarities between them, except this is more gray (and the Ombres Perlees has the deeper green, rather than the grays and burgundy).

Hi, these eyeshadow palettes are beautiful and you picturs of them are stunning. I just have one small request if you don’t mind, I would like to see what the outside of the palette looks like.

Hi Alison–it’s added to this post–thanks for the suggestion.

Amy, this looks wonderful on Liz. I think I might go for one of the palettes and it’s between Les Perles and Le Fumes…which would you recommend for dark hair/eyes & tanned olive skin?

    • Amy September 21, 2011 at 2:48 pm

      I’d go with Les Perles….

I’m allergic to red dye. So would you say this palette isn’t for me?

    • Amy September 21, 2011 at 4:21 pm

Yes there is red in the palette

Thanks for this extremely helpful set of reviews. I love how Liz looks in Les Perles (even though all the others looked wonderful too). When I swatched Les Perles in the store (using my fingers), I found the 3 lighter colors looking the same on my hand though, and looking mostly just like shiny glitter. Did I swatch incorrectly, or do these colors look more distinct on fairer skintones?

    • Amy September 21, 2011 at 8:20 pm

I find plenty of definition between the colors on my light skin

If Amy AND Liz AND Eileen all love this one, chances are, it’s one I need. Thanks for the excellent review!
