Lovely readers, after thinking about Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation ($55) (full swatches are here), I was curious about some color comparisons.  I thought I’d create a little sketchbook with the pictures to share.

First, I wanted to check Chanel’s Perfection Lumiere against my other foundation shades.  Here is a comparison of:

  • Chanel Vitalumiere Fluid 20 Clair/Cameo
  • Chanel Perfection Lumiere B10
  • Chanel Perfection Lumiere B20
  • Chanel Perfection Lumiere B30
  • Chanel Tient Innocence Fluid in 20 Clair/Cameo (discontinued)
  • Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua B10
  • Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua B20
  • Chanel Lift Lumiere 15 Ivoire
  • Chanel Pro Lumiere 20 Claire Cameo
You’ll notice considerable variation among these.  In shade with flash:
In sun with flash:
This one compares the Perfection Lumiere Beige Rose 32 both wet and dry.  I want to emphasize that a quick arm swatches must dry down.  On the left is a freshly applied swatch of Perfection Lumiere BR 32 that has not dried at all.  On the far right is the same foundation that has dried down for a good 20 minutes, maybe longer–what a difference in color that dry down makes.  In the center is a swatch of Vitalumiere Aqua in Beige Rose 30, which is darker and different tonally.
Finally, I wanted to compare a medium skin tone color across all of the different color tones.  Here are swatches of Beige Rose’s deepest shade,  Perfection Lumiere in Beige Rose 52.  Also, there is Perfection Lumiere in Beige 60, Perfection Lumiere in Beige Ambre 64 and Ambre 94:
It’s so interesting to me that numerically, the first three shades toward the left of this picture are all near 60.  But the undertones are so very, very different.  Beige Ambre is so warm, it’s really an amber in the true sense of the word.  Even the “Beige Rose” does not seem very pink to me. The shade range in this release is certainly enormous for Chanel.  Even if you don’t find your perfect match, it may be that you get much closer than with any previous Chanel release.  It’s certainly good to see a very high end luxury line take notice of the wide range of color shades of women. 1. Wow, Amy, fantastic comparison swatches. Thank you for all your hard work!

  2. Just what I was looking for!! thank you so much!! 🙂 This is my first time leaving the comment but I love your blog! 🙂

I love my aqua lumiere and i didn’t like pro lumiere (feels very sticky). would you recommend this over aqua? how is it compare? I have combination/normal skin type 🙂 Thanks Amy! 🙂

  3. Thanks for the swatches! That is my main complaint about Chanel – it’s almost never fair enough for me. Curious to see if this formula gets closer.

  4. Dear Amy, thank you for such a big job swatching and comparing foundations and showing how different Perfection Lumiere looks when it dries. It’s something I’ve never seen before!

  6. Thank you for the swatches. Your blog is fantastic and “must-read” every day. I always read it, but leaving comment for the first time. The swatches are always amazing. If I want to purchase something, I check your blog for swatches and opinions first. I am very curious about Perfection Lumiere, but it has to be amazing to sway me from my Sisley Eclat (oil free one, with a pump bottle).

  7. Wow!!! Thanks for your swatches. I can´t use these foundations snif snif because in Spain we don´t have the lightest colours and I´m so fair. Thanks Amy , kisses from Spain !!!

  8. Hi!!!! Thanks a lot for comparisons, and for showing that the shade changes a bit when dried -so that we don’t feel like ghosts when appliying 😉 I use Vitalumiere Aqua B30, so I’m wondering if Perfection Lumiere would be B30 or Beige Ambre 34 (I see that one a bit dark). Thinking about ambre since I have warm undertones.
Thanks a lot, and I really love your blog, I’m a big fan of HE make up and your blog helps most of the time to decide what to buy. Have a nice day!!!

    • I highly doubt that you’ll be an Ambre, it’s very golden. When you get to a counter, I would explore B30, but also B40 and even B60 just to see. In my opinion, Chanel has not made very many (if any) foundations with the undertones in Perfection Lumiere before. I believe that this release is Chanel’s work to earn the attention of people who had not previously found a color match in their range before.

  9. Wonderful comparisons, Amy. You really go the extra mile for us. Apropos the color change when PL dries, when I went to get some samples, the SA swatched both BR12 and BR22 on me. Wet, the BR12 was too light and the BR22 was perfect. Once they dried, the BR12 was perfect and the BR22 was way too dark. What a surprise!

Ladies, I bet there are a lot of SA’s who don’t know about the change in color when PL dries. My SA didn’t know and proclaimed the BR22 perfect. As soon as it dried, we were surprised to see it was too dark on me. So, follow Amy’s advice and let it dry and settle on your skin before purchasing.

  10. Thanks a lot for your swatches, very appreciated.
Is it the the lighting or does the B10 in Vitualumiere Aqua look lighter than the B10 Perfection Lumiere? I was looking for something that is a bit lighter than the B10 in VLA, but it looks I will stay with what I have now.

  11. Very helpful! Now I have an idea of what to look for when I go to the counter. Now if they can only stop painting foundation on me…more is NOT better!

  12. Vitalumiere Aqua turned dark/oxidized on me. Do you find that Perfection Lumiere does the same thing in terms of oxidizing?

  13. THIS is so helpful, thank you.
I am a pale girl and was wondering how the Perfection Lumiere stacks up to the other foundations. I found Pro Lumiere in 10 was quite dark, looks like this is too. 🙁
