Chanel has recently released two new Rouge Coco formula lipsticks in Avant Garde and Culte ($32) each, together with a re-release of Chanel Rouge Coco in Magnolia (previously reviewed here). Both are pretty neutrals with a very vague touch of coolness that gives them a pretty edge. This formula combines opacity with a moisturizing quality.

Chanel Rouge Coco in Avant Garde is a soft shimmery nude.

Here are some swatches and comparisons:

  • Chanel Rogue Coco Avant Garde
  • Chanel Rouge Coco Cult
  • Chanel Rouge Coco Plumentis
  • Chanel Rouge Coco Etole
  • Chanel Rouge Coco Baroque
  • Burberry Lip Mist in Nude Peach

Overall, I find that slight touch of coolness makes these new Rouge Coco’s a little more modern and unique. I love this formula. Overall, another successful release in this line.

  1. Avant Garde looks like a safe shade to get and I love Baroque. Something to look forward to!

  2. I like Avant Garde a lot although I tend to love most of Chanel’s Rouge Cocos. I find them so light and comfortable to wear I can forgive the short wear time.

  3. Chanel is definitely swinging towards the cool end of the spectrum with it culminating in an edgy, vampy fall collection: Les Essentiels de Chanel. It will be a refreshing change after all the warm, gilded summer colors. The hints of gray and violet in shadows, blushers, and lip colors is a nice modern twist.

  4. LOVE Culte! I think I’m going to make it my third Chanel lippie. :)

  5. Great posts lately – still a faithful reader. Happy to see more models introduced to the gang, too!

I think you mislabeled Culte as Avant Garde in the post once. Nonetheless, it is a great colour, even if I couldn’t make it work on me as it leaned too much towards a greyed out finish. I have high hopes for the A/W collection – the photos look promising, the look seems so safe to stock up especially on cool-toned classics.

  6. Avant Garde is beautiful–I need to make this one mine asap! Culte is so interesting and pretty, but I could NEVER pull off a color like that with my skin tone!

  7. I bought both of these colors two weeks ago at Nordstrom. Avant Garde and Culte look really pretty when mixed together also. I swipe Culte on my bottom lip and Avant Garde on my top lip, then rub together. The end result is a beautiful, natural color.

  8. I saw the video by Lisa Eldridge doing looks for RC Culte and I thought no way… I have a pale skin and that color will drain me instantly. But after seeing your swatches, I think I must jump in! Thanks for the wonderful post, Amy!

  9. I’m so excited! I just picked these 2 colors up yesterday, along with the Glossimir in Plaisir…my first Chanel lippies ever! Then I wanted to pin them today…did a google search and your blog came up :-) I really love the colors…I have a hard time finding great ones that will look ok over my natural lip coloring…I think these fit the bill beautifully!

10. [...] that will work for many skin tones. If you are a fair skinned beauty check it out on Cafe Makeup here to see how it will look on you! Share this:Share Posted in Expensive Beauty « Becca Jewel [...]
