Late last year Chanel released the Rouge Allure Velvet line of lipsticks just as I was leaving the country for a long project. Somehow, I missed getting deeply into these but now must confess that my inattention was a mistake. Recently, I ordered Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Distinguee ($32.50/ # 33) (currently, an online exclusive at Chanel.com).  Like the other Rouge Allure lipsticks in the line, the Rouge Allure Velvets are packaged in the monolithic black tubes that use an elegant “push-click” to open.

As the name implies, the Rouge Allure Velvets have a “velvet” texture. Do not mistake this for matte, as I did. Rather, these are soft, glowy, and feel extremely moisturizing. Chanel La Distinguee is a soft peach-pink neutral that is comparatively opaque. The effect is very elegant and polished.

In terms of the color, La Distinguee is lighter and peachier than Chanel Rouge Coco in Mademoiselle, but not as peachy as Chanel Rouge Coco in Peregrina.  Although Chanel La Distinguee is a natural color, it is not a brown as Bobbi Brown Soft Nude. Swatches:

  1. Lovely! When looking at the tube, I totally thought it would be a matte lippie, too. But this velvet texture really looks better with shades like this (I find I prefer bright shades with a matte finish, as opposed to more neutral shades with a matte finish). I’ll definitely have to check this one out. I’m always up for more Chanel lipsticks! :)

  2. I really love Mademoiselle, so I think this will be a lovely friend for her :)

  3. This is a nice change & it get you excited again about lipsticks.

  4. wow, lovely on you..

  5. Beautiful! My husband went the a Chanel counter here in Ontario, Canada and they had ordered a couple. I was lucky enough to try this today — it really is so moist and beautiful and is easily going to be a work staple for me. Thanks for the head’s up!
