I’ve recently had the opportunity to sample some items from the Själ skincare line– a very modern, scientifically advanced series of skincare items that seeks to blend European and Eastern skincare philosphy. According to the website, the line is designed as a fusion of “luxury, cosmeceuticals and spirituality.” This includes the use of precious minerals and gemstones, including gold, silver, diamond, ruby and amethyst. The line was founded in 2001 by mother-daughter team Karen and Kristin Petrovich, and was inspired by Chinese, Tibetan, Ayurvedic, Homeopathic and Vibrational medicinal ideologies, combined these with European and Japanese bio-technology. The products contain no fillers.

I was sent one ounce sample sizes of two items–the Balans Deep Pore Cleanser and Mineral Källa Energy Tonic.

The Själ Balans Deep Pore Cleanser (approximately $70/6.0 ozs. via sjalskincare.com) uses traces of gold and silver as anti-macrobials. This cleanser is intended to boost immunity, detoxify the skin, and is intended to balance the skin while keeping it hydrated, soothed, and brightened. It is also intended to minimize and clarify pores, keep skin balanced, hydrated, and soothed while detoxifying and brightening. The product includes African Whitewood extract to regulate sebum and fig leaf extract to keep skin hydrated, soft and smooth.

Once I examined the materials that described the product, the luxury label for these items became clear. I found my trial size extremely pleasant to use–it’s a clear gel with a very light, natural scent that evokes a bit of citrus. The gel takes off every trace of sunscreen (Chanel UV Essetiel SPF 50), foundation (Dior Diorsnow BB Creme or Nars Tinted Moisturizer) and my Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill mascara very quickly and with very little effort. Afterwards, my face felt refreshed and clean, without feeling even a bit dry or stripped. I looked back into the mirror into absolutely clean, glowing skin. Here’s the ingredient list (click to enlarge):

The Själ Mineral Källa Energy Tonic (approximately $70/6.0 oz. via sjalskincare.com) is a spray that can be used to hydrate and revitalize the skin, typically as one does one’s skin routine in the morning and throughout the day. It is intended to protect the skin against pollution, counter-act stress, and is “is infused with gemstones such as rhondonite and rose quartz to strengthen immunity, restore equilibrium and reduce stress.”

My sample size did not have a mist, so I applied it with a cotton pad as part of my morning and evening routine. The scent is very faint (I’m detecting a slight floral leaning toward rose, but it’s nearly imperceptible unless I directly sniff the bottle).  I found this to be a pleasant, hydrating toner that left my skin very soft and moisturized.

Overall, I enjoyed the two Själ items that I tried–I played with some of the single-use packets that I received. These were likewise very fresh, light, and get-down-to-business effective.

Some women find that the gold-edged packaging that contains rich, perfumed creams just seem to belong to another era. Själ Skincare offers an updated, scientifically based option that might be worth exploring. In addition to Zuneta, the line is available at sjalskincare.com, Barneys and Zuneta.com.

These sample items were sent to Cafe Makeup without charge for consideration for review. The links are included for your convenience and are unpaid, Cafe Makeup does not earn anything from sales of Själ products.

  1. I have read that when Angelina Jolie was filming in Canada, she was using this line. I’ve never tried it and almost forgotten all about this line.
I think I would have to read more reviews to see if this line can prevent and/or fight back aging. Why do some skin care brands don’t invest in ideal sun protection product?

  2. You need to see the ad on youtube. It’s brilliant (if you’re not prudish lol)

  3. Interesting review, thank you! Never tried anything from them.
