Nars Seduction2a

Spring 2013 brings Nars Seduction blush (now available on Narscosmetics.com and Nordstrom.com), called a Sangria color. This deep burgundy applies with a very slight sheen when applied  (it’s just enough to keep the color from going completely matte, without adding shimmer).

Dior

Dior Las Vegas (phone: 702-734-1102) is receiving the Dior Pink Champagne collection in mid-February. This includes the Diorskin Nude Shimmer Compact (reviewed here by Mostly Sunny), two nail vernis polishes in the colors Golden Era and Tutu, as well as a twinset in Beige Ribbon (according to the store, a wonderful lid base color for other shadows). The collection will also include a Dior Lip Maximizer in a sparkle pink shade ($31, not pictured).  The store is taking orders as of now.

Nars Release

Nars is releasing some pretty gifts for the mid-winter season.  First, Nars 413 Blkr Multiple ($39) is a burgundy shade that echos the brick outside the New York City Bleecker street store, as well as the colors in the other Nars 413 Blkr Street line. This will be sold at the two Nars flagship stores–New York and Los Angeles–as well as on Nars Cosmetics.com starting February 1st.

NARS Bleecker Street1Nars is also introducing a lovely eye set  And God Created Woman (pictured above). This one looks drool-worthy, as it includes some of the nicest and richest shades collected from Nars duos and singles over the past several years. Seriously, the gold from Kalahari in the same palette as Galapogas? Sign me up.

For $59, the set includes a travel size primer and the No. 3 Eye Shader Brush. Available February 1st on Nars Cosmetics.com and it’s already up for sale at Sephora.com.

Hourglass

I’ve been terribly excited for these new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders, just releasing now on Sephora.com. I was fortunate enough to be sent Luminous which I’m currently test-driving (review due soon). I’m hoping to pick up a few more of these as I’ve been impressed so far.

Burberry Mallow Pink 1a

Spring 2013 brings new lipglosses to Burberry Beauty— I chose Mallow Pink (#19) and Pink Sweet Pea (#20) ($27 each).  Both have a similar formula–beautiful, glossy and well pigmented. These vibrant colors apply with a nice dose of rich color which nearly cover my pigmented pink-mauve lips (not all glosses do).

These have a slight perfume scent which fades after a minute or two, and I find that these are non-drying. They are one of my favorite lipgloss formulas for comfort and longevity.
Burberry Mallow Pink 2a

Burberry Mallow Pink is a rich pink coral.

Burberry Mallow Pink 3a

Here is Burberry Mallow Pink applied on Liz:

Another look with both Coral Pink blush and Mallow Pink blush:

Burberry Coral Pink12a

Burberry Pink Sweet Pea is a vibrant pink with blue pearl. This combination has some edge. Although Burberry has some amazing strong reds, Pink Sweet Pea breaks new ground as one its standout pink glosses.

Burberry Pink Sweet Pea 4

This is a vibrant, pigmented gloss.

Burberry Pink Sweet Pea 2

Here is Burberry Pink Sweet Pea on Liz, which is comparatively cooler in tone compared with Burberry Mallow Pink:

Here is a full look, with Burberry Pink Hydrangea blush (reviewed here).

Burberry Hydrangea Pink 3a

Here are some swatches with some vibrantly colored glosses in my collection. Here are Burberry Pink Sweet Pea, Burberry Mallow Pink, Chanel Courtisane, Chanel Pink Pulsion, the very sheer Chanel Fluo Laser, Chanel Pink Teaser, and Guerlain Terracotta Gloss Fraise a Coquer (this was limited edition from a past collection and no longer available, and yet it’s spectacular).

One more, same glosses different lighting:

Bottom line: If you are looking for vibrantly colored, yet sophisticated, beautifully formulated glosses, these are both amazing choices. The colors are brightening and gorgeous.

Chanel Mouche de Beaute01

Here are a few images of Chanel Mouche de Beaute Illuminating Powder ($80/ .42 oz). My beautiful friends, this is what Cafe Makeup refers to as a Chanel Emergency. Because I have a feeling that this product is about to go onto Chanel.com for only a very little while, I thought I would post these now, rather than wait until sell out to do a full review. I purchased mine from the Chanel Boutique in San Francisco, although I understand that Chanel Studios (Nordstrom Seattle and elsewhere) will stock as well. I do not know (but I doubt) that these will be sold at department store counters.

Chanel Mouche de Beaute02

I am currently mustering the courage to try this. The Best Things in Beauty, who is braver than I, has swatches here.

Chanel Mouche de Beaute03

Chanel Mouche de Chanel comes in an elasticized velveteen pouch housing a sponge applicator and a standard size square Chanel compact.

Chanel Mouche de Beaute04a

The illuminating powder is a reproduction of the decor at the Château de Versailles. To my mind, it evokes the Hall of Mirrors or perhaps a ceiling architectural detail. The pan has the image of a bee, the symbol for French royalty.

Chanel Mouche de Beaute05

Close up of the pan which show that this is a gelee type product:

Chanel Mouche de Beaute06a

This is a beautifully worked pattern.

Chanel Mouche de Beaute07a

This was released in connection with the Chanel Cruise 2013 show, which took place at Versailles.

Chanel Mouche de Beaute10

I hope you enjoy these images. I haven’t learned anything official, concrete or specific about its availability–I simply called the Chanel boutique as the items arrived late last week. If you like, I suggest calling your own Chanel boutique to reserve one or to have it sent to you. Otherwise, I would look for the item on Chanel.com in case it appears there.

Burberry Coral Pink2b

Spring 2013 brings Burberry Coral Pink Blush ($42) a warm, deep rose with a touch of coral. Like Burberry Hydrangea Pink (reviewed here, also released for Spring 2013), Coral Pink is a very intense color that requires care during application. In the photographs in this post, we used Nars Yanchiyo brush to ensure light, controllable color.

Burberry Hydragea Pink3

Coral Pink and Hydrangea Pink look similar in the pan. When applied to cheeks, Coral Pink is warmer.

I have no coral blushes remotely similar to Burberry Coral Pink. The closest that I found is Guerlain Series Noir Rouge G blush with the colors mixed. Here are swatches of Burberry Coral Pink, Burberry Hydrangea Pink, MAC Hipness, and Guerlain Rouge G:

Burberry Coral Pink 3a

More swatches of Burberry Coral Pink and Hydrangea Pink are here. Here, Liz is wearing Burberry Coral with Burberry Mallow Pink (also new for Spring 2013). She is also wearing Nars Dark Rite under her eyes, and a touch of Nars Corcovado (Spring 2013) adding a touch of gold to the undereye area.

Burberry Coral Pink4b

Both colors will work on cool and warm skin types. That said, Hydrangea Pink will be more dramatic on warmer skin tones. If you have warm toned skin, Coral Pink will give you a vibrant but more natural look compared to Hydrangea Pink.

Another:

Burberry Coral Pink Blush 1a

Both blushes are a welcome addition to my collection. Although I love Burberry’s other blushes, these vibrant colors are lovely, gorgeous colors that brighten for spring.

Burberry Hydragea Pink1b

Spring 2013 brings Burberry Hydrangea Pink blush ($42), a beautiful rich pink fuchsia color. Unlike some of the Burberry’s previous shades, this color is bright and intense.

Burberry Hydragea Pink2b

We found that it was cooler than Burberry Coral Pink (also released for Spring 2013, review forthcoming). The shades are different enough when worn to warrant having both. For the record, Liz prefers Coral Pink and I prefer Hydrangea Pink.

Burberry Hydragea Pink3b

Here is Burberry Hydrangea Pink on Liz, together with Burberry Pink Sweet Pea Lip Glow Natural Lip Gloss (review forthcoming). We had to apply this carefully with a soft brush (Nars Yanchiyo) as the pigment is very bright. Fair warning–if you go after this Burberry blush with your standard blush brush, be prepared for some seriously bright color.

Burberry Hydrangea Pink 3b

Here, Liz has used the new Burberry Gold Pearl Eyeshadow on her lid (review forthcoming), together with two of the softer colors from the Burberry Pink Taupe eyeshadow quad. She’s also using NARS Corcovado Eyeshadow Pencil under her eyes (from the Nars Spring 2013 collection).

Here are some swatches of Burberry Hydrangea Pink, compared with Chanel Ultra Rose, Burberry Coral Pink, Chanel Tumulte, Tom Ford Narcissist and MAC Pro Full Fuchsia.

Burberry Hydrangea Pink

Although you can see that there are several out there in the ballpark, none are precise duplicates. Burberry Hydrangea is a fabulous, finely milled blush that seems to be more satin compared to the more intense, shimmery Tom Ford Narcissist. It’s much deeper than Chanel Ultra Rose and Tumulte, and more sophisticated and soft compared to MAC Full Fuchsia.

As I love colors like Burberry Hydrangea Pink, this was something that I’ve wanted since I saw the promotional images. Burberry delivered an edgy color that is definitely worth a look.

Available at Nordstrom.com.

Nars Translucent Crystal 1a

Nars Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder ($34/ 0.24 oz) has just become available on Sephora.com. This compact is a generous size (the compact is roughly 3 1/2 inches by over 2 1/2 inches), also slim and sturdy enough to fit into a clutch.

Nars Translucent Crystal 6

The compact comes in a protective fabric pouch with an elastic closure (no brush, but any face powder brush will do).

Nars Translucent Crystal 7

There’s a little white flat applicator that slips into its own individual pocket in the cloth holder:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This product is fascinating to me– here is the company’s description:

NARS Light Reflecting Complex utilizes a blend of pure ingredients that work in synergy to transform light like a prism. Light-active micro-prisms are combined with algae extract and Polynesian seawater to optimize light reflection on the skin.

The photograph-friendly Photochromic technology reduces the “washed out/chalky” appearance that can occur when makeup products are exposed to sunlight or flash photography. This unique powder assures a healthy, natural-looking complexion in any light. When makeup products are exposed to sunlight or flash photography, the powder actually becomes darker to prevent the complexion from looking washed out. The Photochromic technology is a hybrid powder developed from Shiseido’s Advanced Ceramic Technology. The hybrid consists of both Titanium Dioxide (which is white in color) and Iron Oxide (which is red in color). When exposed to sunlight, the UV rays have an effect on this dynamic and the darker shade from the Iron Oxide becomes more pronounced—resulting in the powder taking on a more natural tone and not looking washed out or chalky. Once out of the sunlight, the powder will revert back to the original color.

For me, this product is “photoshop” in real life. It blurs imperfections without changing the color. Although if you look microscopically close in a mirror (Liz and I do that squinting!), you’ll see the powder ever so slightly in real life, but back even just a bit and it disappears, along with lots of the textural imperfections (pores, fine lines, tiny scars) of our complexions. It diffuses and makes our foundation last longer throughout the day. Another interesting thing is that the powder doesn’t feel (or look) dry– the product description says that it contains glycerin and antioxidant vitamin E to help guard against dryness.

Nars Translucent Crystal 10

This finishing powder is completely clear, adding no color. Although a slight shimmer is perceptible in the pan, Liz and I agree that this does not translate to the face when applied.

Nars Translucent Crystal 5

Here’s a quick comparison of Liz, taken while were were testing out some lip products. In the earlier picture, we were getting a bit of glow from her Chanel Vitalumiere liquid foundation (you can see it on her forehead with the flash image on the left). After we changed the lips, she brushed on Nars Light Reflecting powder. These pictures were taken within a few minutes of each other. This isn’t a scientific comparison (the clouds were moving and the light was changing quickly, and I adjusted the flash and lens), but I think it shows the difference (the Nars powder was used on the right, no powder on the left).

Nars Translucent Crystal Comparison

You can see how the powder softens the “glow” from Chanel Vitalumiere’s foundation and the overall texture of Liz’s skin. It photographs beautifully. Incidentally, Liz is wearing the blue shade from Nars Spring 2013 Mad, Mad World eyeshadow duo under her eyes.  Her lip color on the left is Chanel Rouge Allure in Eclatante (reviewed here, where you can see Liz wearing the powder also) and on the right is Chanel Rouge Allure Suidisante (reviewed here).

Nars Translucent Crystal

Overall, I believe we have a winner. I do not want my picture taken without this powder.

Nars Light Reflecting Setting Pressed Powder in Translucent Clear is available now on Sephora.com. Review of the loose powder is here on Beautylish.

Ingredient list (from Sephora):

  • Reflecting Complex™ (Sea Water, Ascophyllum Nodosum Extract, Barium Sulfate, Titanium Dioxide, Mica, Aluminum, Iron Oxides): Transforms light like a prism; optimizes light reflection on the skin.
  • Glycerin/Vitamin E Mineral Powder (Glycerin, Tocopherol, Silica): Allows for targeted release on the skin; gives a soft-focus effect on the skin; guards against dryness and leaves the skin feeling comfortable; offers antioxidant benefits.
  • Advanced Smooothing Blend of Spherical Powders and Polymers: Gives a perfect glide, easy blending ability, and silky feel.
  • Photochromic Technology (Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide): Alters the tone of the complexion according to the intensity of the light.

Chanel 7

Earlier today, Chanel had its Haute Couture Spring Summer 2013 show at the Grand  Palais in Paris. The show had a garden them, and much of the collection seemed inspired by a modern take on the 1930’s. The set was decorated with delicate trees, and guests were handed bottles of 1932, the latest Chanel fragrance.

Chanel 6

Much of the clothing was formal and beautifully executed. There was a mix of tweed suits that emphasized shoulders, flowing dresses and several variations of white formalwear appropriate for wedding attire.

Chanel Envoutante 4

Chanel Spring 2013 introduces Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense in Envoutante ($34 /#116). This is a deep shimmery mauve which drew me in immediately when I saw it at a counter. For my fair (Chanel Clair/Ivoire, Mac NC15/20) coloring and my taste, it is a must-have.

Chanel Envoutante 3

Over the past few months, I’ve been obsessed with deep berries and aubergines. My accessories and nail polish has been reflecting that. For me, it’s a sophisticated take on the “pop of color” idea that happens to work very well with my coloring.

Chanel Envoutante 2

Chanel Envoutante has a similar deep, beautiful shimmery quality as the Louis Vuitton monogram vernis. You can see the depth in the bullet.

Chanel Envoutante 5

Here is Chanel Envoutante on Megan, who came by to help out Cafe Makeup the other day. Because my lips are deeper in tone (similar to Megan’s), this is how the color looks on me. You can see that although it gives a very rich color, the formula does not cake up:

Chanel Envoutante 2

Chanel Envoutante (which roughly translates to “spellbinding”) is not as deep as Chanel Rouge Noir, but deeper than Chanel Rivoli (which I still love). Here are swatches next to some other deep colors that I have in my collection–Chanel Rouge Coco Rivoli, Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Rouge Noir, Chanel La Provocante (Fashion’s Night Out 2012, limited edition), MAC Hot Chocolate (Apres Chic colleciton, limited edition, and the very sheer Givenchy Liv’s Lips (available exclusively at Sephora):

Chanel Envoutantee2

As you can see, Chanel Envoutante is more mauve that the comparatively redder, deep Chanel Rivoli. Chanel Envoutante is lighter than either Rouge Noir or Chanel La Provocante (both of which approach black when worn on the lips). Mac Hot Chocolate is a friendly mauve-nude-brown by comparison. Givenchy’s Liv’s Lips looks deep in the tube, but applies quite sheerly compared to the other lipsticks.

Overall, I love Chanel Envoutante as a statement color. It has the same gorgeous formula as the other Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense shades (all former shades are swatched here). It adds a rich, beautiful touch of color to your look.
