Tatcha camillia lip balm01

Tatcha’s Gold Camellia Nourishing Lip Balm ($36/ 0.28 oz.) (available here on Tatcha’s website and Barney’s New York) is a best-in-class, luxury lip balm. The texture is quite moisturizing, the presentation elegant and the ingredients are pure, beautiful and simple.

Tatcha camillia lip balm03a This little treasure comes with a nice touch. Once the understated box is opened, and the little drawer pulled out, you will see a letter that describes the product’s heritage on artisan paper.

The jar is a heavy glass with a plastic lid. Inside, you can see a thin sheet of 24 karat gold that lends a beautiful touch to the presentation.

Once opened, one dips in.  Go ahead. It’s an amazing product and meant to be enjoyed. The instructions read:

Scoop a small amount of the lip balm, tearing part of the gold leaf. Gently dab onto lips, allowing the gold to crush and create a subtle gleam.

Once the gold sheet is broken, the gold mixes in with the product and essentially dissolves into the luxurious clear balm underneath.

The balm has a slight natural floral scent that has a touch of woodsy lemon. It’s gorgeous and fresh, very sophisticated.  It makes my lips feel really amazing–soft, moisturized. The balm has enough weight to last for a very long time.  It’s a lovely conditioner.

Bottom line–Tatcha Gold Camellia Nourishing Lip Balm is an elegant treat. It’s large enough to last, and luxurious enough to use everyday (or evening for an overnight treatment). Love.

  1. What a goooorgeous product. But holy hell $36! 😮 I think I’ll stick to Nuxe! (Or Maybelline Baby Lips haha)

  2. I could DIE of happiness!

  3. There will always be those people who go into sticker shock over the price of this balm, but those of us who have chronically dry lips recognize that there is a huge difference in quality and efficacy between a product like this and, let’s say, Chap Stick. When it comes to conditioning and moisturizing my lips, products like Burt’s Bees, Baby Lips, Eos, and even my beloved daytime staple Jack Black, just don’t measure up to a product like Tatcha’s soothing, healing, and long-lasting balm. I should probably confess that I also love La Mer’s lip balm, so Tatcha’s price was not too much for me to spend on something that would keep my lips feeling and looking healthy.

During the day, I use Jack Black because it doesn’t interfere with my lipstick or gloss and it has a high level of SPF, but at night I’ve been using Tatcha’s balm as an overnight treatment. When seasonal allergies flare up, I tend to breath through my mouth while I sleep, but since I’ve been using Tatcha, I wake up with my lips still feeling soft, smooth, and hydrated. So, is it worth $36? For me the answer is a resounding yes! For someone who doesn’t have dry lips, probably not.

  4. I’ve always been obsessed with lip balm but I’ve been on such a high-end lip treatment kick lately. I NEED THIS!!! 😛 haha

  5. Based on Eileen’s review, I think I’d like to try this product. I constantly suffer from dry lips and paying a little more for a great product is worth it. Besides, I already pay $34 for my favorite Chanel lipstick…I think I can manage just one more additional splurge…:-)

  6. Wow! Sounds lovely. I would feel very sophisticated just using this product! Definitely expensive for this little jar. I bet it is luxurious on the lips, but it is just not affordable for me to spend on a balm. sigh. Great review!!
