Quick post61

First, the Holiday season is here, so much love and fun (and a dash of stress!). To relax, I love to indulge in bath products. Between us, Liz and I have gone through about a dozen Lush bath bombs in about a month–is there anything like too much indulgence? We say no, if Tom Ford can take five baths a day, we say “Lush bath bombs away!”  I think I’m moving toward a L’Occitanne obsession next.

Second, giving the gift of good skin is always a lovely thing to do. I couldn’t resist this Clarisonic Mia First–perfect for travel–for $99 at Nordstrom yesterday (also available at Sephora). For the worldwide traveller, the charger converts automatically from 120 to 220/240 volts so that you can use this elsewhere with just a plug adapter.

Burberry oxblood lip mist

Third, Burberry Beauty is back in a big way. After a transition from an outside manufacturer, they’ve released a Holiday collection that includes a gold nail polish call Light Gold with a gold-toned cap. Above is their new Burberry Oxblood Lip Mist.  The Burberry eyeshadow range is back in stock, and I’ve been told that their highly build able and long-wearing Sheer Luminous foundations have not been re-formulated (thank heavens! I’ve just bought my third bottle).

I’ve also picked up their Burberry Kohl eye pencil to try. It’s short, but I’m hopeful that the quality level is there. We’ll see.

I’m also excited to see the items that Burberry will be releasing in 2014–they definitely have some exciting new formulas and colors on their release list.

nars eyeliner

Fourth (I know, more than three), I’ve concluded that the Nars Stylo Eyeliner ($27) has won out over the Marc Jacobs Beauty Magic Marc’r ($30) in my book. Although slimmer, the Nars Stylo lasted far longer (it never seemed to quit) and contains more product. Also, I found that the Nars brush pen held up better than the Marc Jacobs (although I use them both the same way, and I’ve used my Nars far more). Although I enjoyed using the Marc pen, I won’t be re-buying it. However, I did re-order the Nars Stylo replacement this morning.

What are you obsessed with right now?

The NARS Stylo was sent to Cafe Makeup without charge for consideration for review (although I bought my replacement with my own funds). This post contains affiliate links (for more information, see About Cafe Makeup).

  1. Hi Ami, can you please explain what do you mean by “burberry made a transition from an outside manufacturer”?

    Thank you,

    • Their former manufacturer’s original contract expired–there a bit in the press about it (for example, this from Women’s Wear Daily).

      • I’m sorry but I didn”t find a relevant article in the link you posted…

I know that till today they produced their lines in China, which created an inconsistency in quality, like, for example: I bought the same lipstick twice, but second time it had a different color (it was my last Burberry purchase).

        Where do they produce now?

        • Several of my older Burberry lip products are listed as made in Italy. So is the new Oxblood Lip Mist that I bought yesterday, except the maker is listed as “Burberry Limited”.

        • PS the article is about Interparfums former Burberry contract.

        • Hi Goya, if you don’t mind me chiming in here, Burberry Beauty has always been produced in Italy, never in China. I have several products from before when they were produced by interparfums and all say Made in Italy (I just checked them all). My new items are also Made in Italy and the only difference in packaging is that it says Burberry Limited instead of Interparfums (their old beauty manufacturer). Where did you buy yours from?

Amy how do you like the Oxblood Lip Mist? I bought every single Oxblood item the day they came out on the Burberry site. The Lip Cover isn’t necessary if you have the Lip Mist as you just have to add an extra layer of Mist for the same effect. I don’t love the Kohl, I’m sorry to say the quality is just not there. The pencil tugs and skips. I so wanted to love it too, I’d wanted an eyeliner in this colour for ages.

Definitely looking forward to their spring collection too (saw a few sneak previews some weeks back). Waiting for your review of the gold nail polish, I’m quite undecided on it otherwise I would have it by now!

          • Thank you Leila–have you tried applying the kohl sideways (if you haven’t returned it yet)? I drag it across my lash line (minimizes the need to sharpen it too) like a Guerlain kohl. It seems to help make it go on smoothly without tugging on me.

I’m loving the lip mist. My Instagram has a pic of Liz wearing it (I’ll post it here soon). The gold nail color is pretty opaque–I’ll need to play with it more though. I’ll post a review when I do.

          • Hi Leila,

I’ve bought my Burberry first time in John Lewis (London) and second time from the same place on line.

I was shocked to discover that the same lipstick has different shades…

          • Goya, that’s really strange, I bought mine from the same places and had no problem! The only problems these past few months have been stock shortages and that was because of the changeover. Maybe you should make a complaint or let them know about this, possibly there’s a problem and they would want to know.

Thank you for the suggestion Amy, using it sideways does help, but what I really wanted was to be able to use it easily from the tip. Every time I try from the tip, it tugs. A colour like this needs precision, otherwise it’ll look like you’ve been crying! At least it is usable and it would be a shame to waste such a pretty colour, especially as we can’t return makeup here in the UK. I should have expected it though, as fantastic as everything else is in the line, the eyeliners and mascara isn’t the best.

I did see the picture of Liz wearing the lipstick, it really is a lovely colour isn’t it? I’m so glad they brought out a colour like this in the Lip Mist formula, I’ve been enjoying mine for a couple of months now.

          • I love Oxblood lipmist–I wore it tonight with a Chanel pencil underneath. Really lovely!! 🙂

  2. Hi Amy,

Avobath and Sex Bomb are amongst my favorite LUSH bath bombs! My current LUSH obsession is LUSH Rose Jam shower gel, which I’m hoping to review soon….

As for Burberry, the Light Gold nail polish is gorgeous! Especially in its limited edition gold packaging 🙂

  3. Nice to know that you think that Burberry has returned to the company we first fell in love with. I have been very hesitant to buy from them lately–everything seemed a bit off.
That Oxblood Lip Mist looks gorgeous!!
I would love to see it swatched.

  4. Hello, Amy! Do you know if it’s safe to assume that the eyeshadows that were not restocked are now discontinued? I remember an associate telling me that #1 was, but I noticed that others still aren’t available. I am just wondering if you happen to know! As always, thank you for your wonderful reviews.

    • I don’t think it is safe to assume that, fortunately. I think things are still coming in. However, I haven’t seen any comprehensive list (although I’d love to).

      • Thank you! I will keep checking back, then. (I was looking for Pearl Blue — I think you reviewed it a few years ago, and it seems to be one of the shades that has been missing for ages.) I’ll see what they say the next time I’m at the counter; I haven’t been by in a while. Have a great holiday season! 🙂

  5. Hi Amy! I’m debating between the Marc Jacobs Magic Marcer and Nars Stylo (tried the Marc Jacobs one on my hand and it didn’t budge, even after doing the dishes… SOLD). Any comments on the color payoff? I forgot to swatch the Nars one at the same time and I loved how deep the black was on the Marc Jacobs pen!
