Marc Jacobs Love Lust02Free Marc Jacobs? Sign me up. I put the Sephora Beauty Insider Marc Jacobs Love and Lust set (1000 points) into my cart when this promotion went live. Marc Jacobs Love Lust03Inside, there is a booklet that introduces the line, as well as full sized Marc Jacobs Beauty Lovemarc lip gel in #146 Cabernet ($30), a new limited edition shade that is currently exclusive to Sephora VIB Rouge members.  There is also a full sized Marc Jacobs Beauty Lust for Laquer Lip Vinyl in #316 Shooting Stars ($28). Marc Jacobs Lust Life1 Cabernet is a wine plum. Shooting Stars is a warm red, with a touch of rust and soft sparkle. Hit me like a ray of sun, Shooting Stars. As with Marc’s other glosses, this one is refreshingly mint-scented. Marc Jacobs Love Lust10The gloss was our favorite by far. Here is Shooting Stars on Liz: MARC JACOBS LIPGLOSS1 If you’ve been saving your Sephora points, this set is definitely worth a look. MAC Moody Blooms1I picked up a few items from MAC’s Moody Blooms collection released last week. There are some pretty accent colors in it that caught my eye in MAC’s Veluxe Pearl formula. In addition to this as my favorite MAC eyeshadow texture, the collection attracted me because the strong colors can be added to a neutral eye to shake things up a bit. My take on this collection is that it was released a few weeks early–these colors say “late summer” to me. Nonetheless, better too early than too late, n’est ce pas? Various items from this collection are still available on Nordstrom.com, Macy’s, and MAC online, as well as other MAC sources.

MAC Moody Bloom eyeshadows1

The eyeshadows are:

  • Artistic License, a shimmery peach Veluxe Pearl
  • Deep Fixation, a rich warm-red brown Veluxe Pearl that was released lsat year in MAC’s Nudes and Metallics collection
  • Blooming Mad a complex light purple Frost that will mix nicely with some deep taupes
  • Hidden Motive, a deep red-violet Veluxe Pearl
  • Green Room, a green-teal Satin

The one item that you may not want to miss is Black Ivy Fluid Line, a deep blue green liner with very slight sparkle that’s absolutely gorgeous with a neutral eye.

MAC Moody Blooms11

Another:MAC Moody Blooms09

Here are some swatches:

MAC Moody Bloom Swatches3

I picked up two lipsticks in MAC’s Sheen Supreme formula, a soft sheer formula that has a soft glow.

MAC Moody Blooms12

As you might expect, these do not last all day and some find them drying (although I do not).

MAC Moody Blooms13

MAC Moody Bloom is  complex, shimmery brown/plum nude. Because it is sheer, it will look different on everyone. Here is Moody Bloom on Liz– you should not that this does not show as pink on me, this is due to a strong pink undertone on Liz’s lips. On me, this is more bronze/mauve.  This is a pretty grab-and-go shade.

MAC Moody Bloom sheen supreme1

Here is MAC Lush Extract on Liz, a bold cool pink/purple that is very striking. Liz thought that this color was too strong for her coloring.

MAC Moody Bloom Swatches2

I also bought MAC Worldly Wealth, which I haven’t had the chance to explore. This is a frost formula, so one I can expect a shimmery finish to this warm-toned blush.

MAC Moody Blooms02

A swatch of Worldly Wealth:

MAC Moody Bloom Worldly WealthI hope that you enjoyed this quick look into MAC’s Moody Bloom collection. Some items are available on Nordstrom.com, Macy’s, and MAC online, as well as other MAC sources.

Hum runway ready01 As I was running through a Sephora a few weeks ago grabbing some items, I noticed the HUM Nutrition Supplements that looked fun and friendly. Taking care of ourselves means eating right, but sometimes I need a little something to help my hair and nails to look their best. Because I really do agree with the line’s tag “Beauty Starts from Within,” I agreed to try out the HUM Runway Ready set ($36/30 pack). On my way to Colorado, I took a roughly two-week supply in my bag, which proved to be a good decision. Hum runway ready07 These daily envelopes each contain a mix of HUM’s Red Carpet and Killer Nails formulas. Each day during my trip, I found these very easy to integrate into my very packed days. I’d have one pre-measured envelope with a glass of Emergen C.  Easy peasy! Hum runway ready08 Although the line recommends that these be taken with food, I slipped up some days without any side effects (oops!). Anyway, the pills were very small and easy to swallow, and I had the side benefit of knowing that I was adding a little “beauty from the inside” once a day.  Click to enlarge: Hum ingredients If you don’t like the envelope format, these supplements are available in standard bottles, as well as other offerings to address a variety of beauty concerns, including firmer skin, hydration and omega-3 for overall health. Hum runway ready09Overall, I was impressed with the ease of use and convenience of the line. Definitely worth a look.

Becca Tint Shimmer Souffle1I’ve been playing with Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffles  ($27) in Raspeberry/Opal and Fig/Opal. These are from a new series of glowy creams that mix blush and highlighters.

Becca Tint Shimmer Souffle6

These are beautiful once applied. The blush mixes with the gold highlighter, so the colors are not true to the rich tones that you see in the glass pots. Raspberry/Opal mixes with the gold to become a rich red-coral, and Fig is a mauve-nude.

Becca 2

Although the swatches have some sparkle, on the cheeks these have a gorgeous highlighter sheen. Another:

Becca 1

I have become addicted to Fig Opal, it’s the prettiest nude color. Fortunately, these are foolproof to use. Unlike some creams which require laser attention–either “where’s the color?” or “oh, no, doll cheeks!”–these are easy to use. A single layer gives soft color, and they can be layered up easily and blended for a more intense look.  I’m loving both of these on my MAC NC15/Chanel Ivoire skin tone. After using these for a few weeks, I’m really loving these.

Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara1Too Faced’s Better than Sex Mascara ($23) has been getting some rave reviews, so I had to see what the cries of “holy grail” were all about. I like Chanel, Armani, and Yves Saint Laurent mascara. I’m hearing such a high volume of positives on this one. I’m happy to report this one deserves the accolades.

Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara2

Beyond all the kitchy marketing on the outside, this mascara is a very wet-formula high-volume that ooooomphs your lashes from the very first coat. Add two or three and you’ll cause a slight breeze whenever you blink. This is serious, serious volume. Like many volume-adding formulas, I need to carefully use the brush on my lashes to avoid clumps. I’m  happy to report that, when I am careful, it is possible to get an absolutely clump-free application. I just can’t go waving that brush around everywhere, and anyway that sounds like a good way to lose an eye and we certainly do not want that to happen, do we?

Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara4The brush is an hourglass shape “inspired by a woman’s curves” (pull-eeze). The good news is that this does catch all my lashes, even the teeny ones, and the bristles dig in enough to get close to the lash line.  Don’t you hate when a mascara can’t get all the way in there? This brush works.

Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara7

One quick note of caution–this mascara takes a good 4-5 application days to really get rolling. The first day was nice, the second was better. By the fifth, I realized why this mascara is recommended by so many women. Volume for days. Worth the raves.

Too Faced’s Better than Sex Mascara is available at Sephora ($23)

armani

Use code FAMILY14 for 20% off at Giorgio Armani Beauty until the end of June.  Some things to consider include the Giorgio Armani Luminessence CC Cream (wearing this today, reviewed here).

Armani CC Cream09

Also loving the Giorgio Armani Liquid Summer Bronzer (reviewed here). This is genius for a neutral, blendable, layerable look. It makes my skin looks so much better than it really is, by some Armani magic.

Armani Liquid Summer2

The Armani Fluid Sheers are amazing for a perfect glow (swatches here):

GA Fluid Sheer Swatches2a

I haven’t reviewed them yet, but I’ve been loving the Armani Light Master Primer–it gives me a porcelain-textured finish and a perfect sheen when wearing the product with my Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.  It’s like a secret weapon for youthful, perfected skin.

Screen Shot 2014-06-19 at 6.40.01 AM

Another stock-up-worthy staple is the Armani Maestro Eraser Concealer. I like to use this under my eyes over a corrector. The very very very thin layer of product adds only a minimal amount of product there, so the area doesn’t look heavy or cakey. It can be used on the rest of the face as well.

Armani Concealer23

Happy Armani shopping!! P.S. Yves Saint Laurent Beauty also has 20% off right now with the same code FAMILY14.

swiss helenere

The Swiss skincare line Helenere is now available to those in the U.S. (register your email to shop the site). Although the line has just launched an international site, the company has a long history of research, development, and licensing of prove ingredients to achieve its mission of offering “highly concentrated, high performance skin care formulas that meet the specific needs of each skin type.”  The high quality line is made in Switzerland, and many of the ingredients are inspired by the Lake Geneva region which is its home.

Helenere Skincare10

The Maitrise du Temps Serum ($51 for a single bottle/$244 for 5-bottle set) is a lightweight serum that is designed for anti-aging. According to the line this is an extra-rich formula “renders its elasticity to the epidermis, and restores firmness and brightness to the skin while re-balancing its hydrolipidic film and diminishing wrinkles.” I found that this was a gently scented, well-formulated serum that (with 2-3 weeks use), left my skin glowing, supple and very pretty. It doesn’t feel oily; rather, this sinks into my skin within a few minutes after application (no breakouts, either).

Helenere Skincare19

There is nothing harsh about this serum–it feels spa-treatment lovely, and my skin looks alive in the morning. Do you know when your skin just doesn’t look supple, or that it doesn’t really have the sheen that you wish it would? That’s what this serum restores. My skin looks more oxygenated, the texture improved, and so it looks younger. I can see why this has been Helenere’s hero product for 25 years.

Helenere Skincare15a

The bottle is a nice 10 ml, which is probably going to give me about four weeks use or more. The small size is airline baggie-friendly. There’s a dropper at the top–it’s very easy to put a drop or three into the palm of your hand. I won’t be getting to a spa anytime soon (and certainly not one on Lake Geneva), but this serum makes my skin look as if I had.

Helenere Skincare12

I also tried the Helenere Ceramide Eyezone ($122/ 30 ml.) This eye treatment is said to diminish wrinkles and dark circles, minimize swelling on the lids, and preserve suppleness and firmness around the eye.

Helenere Skincare01

The generous size of this lightweight treatment invites use around the entire eye–lid, under eye area, all the way up to the brow. The texture feels like a gel, which I prefer because the product sinks in more quickly and does not clog my pores.

Helenere Skincare05The Helenere Eyezone delivered on its promise to keep puffiness away from my eye area, and to keep the area supple and smooth. I suspect that such products must be used for several weeks before the cellular changes become apparent–as it was, I’m very happy with the product and have adopted into my regimen. I love the light feeling, and the overall short-term improvement that it provides, and I’m excited to see whether the long-term benefits manifest.

Helenere Skincare08Overall, Helenere’s international launch is promising. These products seem worthy of the luxury label, if these items are any indication. Please note that the line offers a 20% discount for first purchases with the promotional code PREMIERE (no minimum quantity, no minimum value).

Perricone MD has a full line of No Makeup Skincare: A Revolutionary Approach to Color, and the base products have already been reviewed here and here. This line of products is available at Sephora and Perricone MD’s website.

Perricone MD Foundation Bronzer Concealer Mascara BlushThis entire incorporates anti-aging skincare, to repair, restore, and to ensure that the overall look is youthful. In addition to antioxidants, DMAE, and neuropeptides, the line is formulated with high pigment that sits lightly on the skin, which can be built up, sculpted, modified, mixed and blended to achieve a look that is healthy, natural, and with a youthful look. As I said in my prior posts, I loved several of these products. However, I loved, loved, loved the products together as a set.  First, I was shocked at how quickly I could do a face with this set. It’s no brushes required. The products are essentially fool-proof once I got comfortable with the format. They blend beautifully together, and their textures are ideal for layering. They are designed for very intuitive application. Although it is easy to layer them up to increase coverage, it seems impossible to over-do them. There is a real synergy in the design and formulation for use as a set.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare14a

This review considers the remaining products in the line:

  • No Bronzer Bronzer
  • No Blush Blush
  • No Concealer Concealer
  • No Mascara Mascara
  • No Lipstick Lipstick

There were a few products that were true standouts. One was the Perricone MD No Bronzer Bronzer ($35/.03 oz.). This liquid bronzer has some lovely qualities, including the ability to bronze, darken foundation shades, contouring, and to meld beautifully with the skin when blended.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare05a

The No Bronzer Bronzer has some skincare ingredients in the mix:

– Vitamin C Ester to help brighten the skin and address visible sun damage.
– Non-chemical, mineral-based SPF 30 with Zinc oxide to protect from UVA and UVB rays

I consider these a nice plus, because I am not sure that I’ll personally use the No Bronzer Bronzer in a sufficient quality to derive large benefits from these. However, I do appreciate the well-formulated serum texture, which makes the product easy and intuitive to control. It reminds me a bit of Giorgio Armani’s Liquid Summer serum bronzer.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare06

The ingredient list for the No Bronzer Bronzer is here (click to enlarge):

Perricone Bronzer2

Here are some quick comparisons between the Armani Liquid Summer Bronzer and Perricone MD’s No Bronzer Bronzer…

Another set (blended out):

Bronzer swatches Perricone Armani2

The Perricone MD No Blush Blush ($35/0.3 oz), is a pretty universal rose color that seems to work well with both cool and warm skin tones. It also adds a touch of natural pink to a bronzed cheek to make a sun kissed look. According to the line, this blush includes DMAE (to help to firm and tone the skin, restoring the appearance of lift and contour along cheekbones) and non-chemical, mineral-based SPF 30 with Zinc oxide (to protect from UVA and UVB rays).

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare07aThis liquid blush is remarkably easy to use, and very hard to over-do. I dabbed on 1-3 touches of the doe foot applicator on each cheek, and blended for a natural look. Unlike liquid stains, the Perricone No Blush Blush was forgiving and did not require lightning reflexes to avoid a dotted cheek–foolproof, truly.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare18

Here is the ingredient list for the No Blush Blush (click to enlarge):

Perricone Blush2

The Perricone MD No Concealer Concealer ($35) is released in shade #2, a light creamy medium-coverage color that blends nicely, doesn’t crease and has good lasting power.

Screen Shot 2014-06-13 at 10.21.29 PM

I’ve used the prior version extensively, and I’ve been pleased with the skin care ingredients. It’s very good.

– Vitamin C Ester for brightening and collagen boosting
– Phospholipids create a barrier to protect against environmental aggressors
– Microcirculatory agents help treat dark circles
– Non-chemical, mineral-based SPF 30 with Zinc oxide to protect from UVA and UVB rays

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare09b

If you are familiar with the prior version, this is the same formula but in a more convenient format.

Perricone Mascara1

The Perricone MD No Mascara Mascara ($30) is a lash treatment and mascara. According to the line, this includes:

– Neuropetides help regenerate, condition and nourish lashes.
– Biotin improves the healthy and quality of lashes with each application
– Tocotrienols condition and smooth lashes

 Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare10a

This color is a dark brown-black (see swatch for color, below), and delivers a very clean, lengthened lash, adding slight volume. There is zero clumping, instead the look tends toward a natural, uplifted, and long look. It’s very pretty, and the fact that is is nourishing is a lovely plus.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare11

The Perricone MD No Lipstick Lipstick ($30) is another product that I fell in love with. The color is a pretty, soft pink that’s highly wearable by those with many different skin tones. It’s a soft of “all occasion pink.” The texture was absolutely lovely–it’s very hydrating and seemed to soften the texture of my lips.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare12a According to the line, the No Lipstick Lipstick:

– Mimics the natural, rosy color of youthful lips and vermillion zone.
– Smoothes vertical lip lines and restore suppleness and fullness while protecting with a broad spectrum,  mineral SPF 15.
– Solid to serum texture allows for sheer, buildable coverage while hydrating and nourishing.

This feels lovely, and makes my lips look years younger. I hope that more colors of this formala are released. I’m including swatches of all shades here:

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare19As you can see, the serum color is a near-match for the No Foundation Foundation in #2. I did a quick finger-blend of the swatches, above, without being very precise or careful. On the skin, a proper blending job delivers smooth and lovely results.

Mascara1

Overall, I loved using these products. These are extremely easy to use, impressively long-wearing, and allowed me to get ready in less than five minutes. My skin looked beautifully natural, and I loved the fact that the product have skincare benefits. Although I wear my standard SPF 50 sunscreen, I appreciated that there is sunscreen woven into the formulas.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare01

Perricone MD has a full line of No Makeup Skincare: A Revolutionary Approach to Color that provides “good for you” benefits together with foolproof and versatile application.  Although I was aware of some of these products, I was impressed to see an entire lineup that, because of its liquid format, can be mixed and blended to create naturally beautiful looks. The theme of this collection are anti-aging skincare additions, which repair, restore, and to ensure that the overall look is youthful. In addition to antioxidants, DMAE, and neuropeptides, the line is formulated with high pigment that sits lightly on the skin, which can be built up, sculpted, modified, mixed and blended to achieve a look that is healthy, natural, and with a youthful look. The items are available at Sephora and Perricone MD’s website.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare14a

I loved several of these products. As an overview, the line includes:

  • No Foundation Foundation Serum
  • No Foundation Foundation (2 shades)
  • No Bronzer Bronzer
  • No Blush Blush
  • No Concealer Concealer
  • No Mascara Mascara
  • No Lipstick Lipstick

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare02a

Perricone MD’s No Foundation Foundation ($55/ 1 ounce) is a lightweight, creamy liquid foundation that applies in a single layer for light coverage with a dewy finish. At first, some readers may find the coverage too light compared to typical foundations or BB cremes. My sense is that, with continual use, your skin will improve with the use of this and other skincare products, so that less coverage will be needed. Nonetheless, the No Foundation Foundation can be easily layered and built without caking or looking heavy. Indeed, this product is ideal for those who do not like heavy feeling products on the fact, or those who may have imperfections, slight wrinkles or the like because the lightweight, non-caking texture does not emphasize flaws. As the line is designed for those with aging skin, this is ideal. Heavy-textured foundation is rarely desirable for skin of any age. I try to use the lightest coverage that I can get away with, and concealers as necessary. For this No Foundation Foundation, the key skincare ingredients are Alpha Lipoic Acid (designed to minimize wrinkles and pores while delivering powerful antioxidant protection, and Vitamin C to correct discoloration). The product also includes non-chemical SPF30 based on titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, claiming protection from both UVA and UVB rays.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare15

The product comes in two shades. The lighter #1 was a pretty good match for my MAC NC15/Chanel Ivoire skin tone. I would guesstimate that #2 runs at about an NC30-35. The products can be mixed to target shades in between. The Perricone MD No Bronzer Bronzer can be used to deepen the shade range higher than NC35. The products are dispensed through a pump.

Perricone Foundation pump1

Overall, I liked Perricone MD’s No Foundation Foundation. The product does have a dewy finish which does look lovely when first applied and those with drier skin will appreciate. Because my forehead gets oily throughout the day, I tended to powder this down on my forehead area, and left the other areas with a pretty sheen. Here is the ingredient list (click to enlarge):

Perricone Foundation No 12
Between this product and the Perricone MD No Foundation Serum, I found that they worked well together. On some days, I tried layering, and other others I mixed the two to get a lighter color match. Either way, they were a nice combination. If I were to be forced to commit to only one (arghhh!), I’d go with the serum because I prefer a more matte finish, and in my subjective opinion I loved the way that the serum felt on my skin. Also, the serum seemed to camouflage my pores into invisibility, really. I’m including swatches of all shades here, including Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum:

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare19I did a quick finger-blend of the swatches, above, without being very precise or careful. On the skin, a proper blending job delivers smooth and lovely results.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare21Overall, I really liked Perricone MD’s No Foundation Foundation. I love the way that I could mix the products to sculpt areas of my face, mix with the bronzer, and loved the all-day, highly buildable coverage. Other products from this line are reviewed here and here.

Introducing Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare: No Foundation Foundation Serum

Foundation, Perricone MD  Comments Off on Introducing Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare: No Foundation Foundation Serum

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare14aPerricone MD has a full line of No Makeup Skincare: A Revolutionary Approach to Color that provides “good for you” benefits together with foolproof and versatile application.  Although I was aware of some of these products, I was impressed to see an entire lineup that, because of its liquid format, can be mixed and blended to create naturally beautiful looks. Here is the entire line (click to enlarge):

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare01The fundamental thread that goes through the entire line of products is anti-aging skincare, to repair, restore, and to ensure that the overall look is youthful. In addition to antioxidants, DMAE, and neuropeptides, the line is formulated with high pigment that sits lightly on the skin, which can be built up, sculpted, modified, mixed and blended to achieve a look that is healthy, natural, and with a youthful look.

As an overview, I loved several of these products. However, I loved, loved, loved the products together as a set.  First, I was shocked at how quickly I could do a face with this set. • No Concealer Concealer
  • No Mascara Mascara

Perricone Foundation Serum1There were a few products that were true standouts. For me, the Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum ($55) was amazing. It has a similar texture to the Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Foundation, lightweight, layerable and very long-lasting (surprisingly so, this foundation didn’t move even on the longest days). This is available at Sephora and Perricone MD’s website.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare03b

It has the most gorgeous, suede-matte texture. My pores disappeared. My face looked firmer and perfected. This still looked this good more than ten hours after application.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare04

I applied an extra layer or two to problem areas. The color is a touch on the darker side for my MAC NC15/Chanel Ivoire skin tone. In order to use the product, I put a good layer on my skin so that I could soak in the product’s anti-aging neuropeptides (to create suppleness and firmness), Vitamin C (to discolorations) and Alpha Lipoic Acid (to minimize wrinkles and pores).  Then I mixed this serum foundation with Perricone MD’s No Foundation Foundation in shade #1 (the lightest shade) to create a shade that matches the rest of me. The serum can be mixed with the Perricone MD No Bronzer Bronzer to deepen its color. Like the Armani, the Perricone MD uses a dropper as the applicator.

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare17

The product is rated at SPF 30 (according to Perricone MD’s website, the No Foundation Foundation Serum includes a “non-chemical, mineral-based SPF 30 with Zinc oxide to protect from UVA and UVB rays” Here is the ingredient list (click to enlarge):

Perricone Foundation Serum2  I’m including swatches of all shades here, including Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum:

Perricone MD No Makeup Skincare21Overall, I loved the look and feel of Perricone MD’s No Foundation Foundation Serum. In addition to the lovely texture and buildable coverage, the product’s skincare benefits was conferring some benefits throughout the day. Additional products from this line are available here and here.
