NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation: Swatches of (almost) All Shades

January 21, 2015

NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation is available here at Nordstrom.com.

Nars All Day Luminous56

NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation ($48) is available at Nordstrom in twenty new shades. This new fluid is said to give “full coverage in a single, weightless drop.” I’m in the process of testing this out, but I did want to post some images for those who are considering the product. I will say that so far, the promise of lightweight, all-day, excellent coverage has been holding true. All signs so far point to “yes,” if you love a skin-like, satin-to-matte finish. NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation is available at NordstromNars online, Sephora, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.

True to the Francois Nars aesthetic, the bottles are absolutely gorgeous. Designed by the New York Design firm Baron & Baron, it features an all-new pump design that gives you “the exact amount of product to perfect the entire face.” Again, I have to attest that it really does.  This dispenses less than a traditional foundation pump, and one smooth motion gives you just that perfect amount of dime-sized drop to perfect my skin. The elegant glass bottle, well, oh my, you could even say it glows.

Although the sample bottles do not come with ingredients list, the enclosed sheet states that the product is free of fragrance, paraben, alcohol and oil.  This formula must be shaken before each use.

Also, the formula uses Even Tone Technology to neutralize redness, dullness and discoloration, and to improve skin’s appearance over time. Here are 19 of the 20 shades (I didn’t receive the lightest shade Siberia, but am hoping to track it down soon),

Nars deauville comparisons1

Here is quick comparison of my shade Deauville in both this new All Day Luminous compared with my year-old bottle of Nars Sheer Glow in Deauville. I cannot tell the difference in tonality and color when applied to my face, of course the texture, coverage, and formula is very different.Nars All Day Luminous08

Thank you for this lovely post. I was wondering what color did you get for yourself since we have a quite similar skin tone. I also notice that Ceilan looks lighter than Fiji and paler and more yellow, perhaps, than Deauville.
Thanks and have a lovely Wednesday!

    • Amy January 21, 2015 at 12:45 pm

I am using Deauville but might try a slightly deeper shade tomorrow.

Thank you Amy. Can you keep us posted regarding the best color match?

          Of course!!

  • wendy January 21, 2015 at 10:55 am

hi amy! i’m really hoping that this foundation really works for us!! finally, no alcohol or fragrance. and, i think this has spf?! the shade range looks great too!! thankyou for posting this!!

    • Amy January 21, 2015 at 12:44 pm

Wendy this is exciting. On SPF, I am not sure. We will have to look at the ingedieys list. I always use a separate one.

Keep in mind that some companies introduce foundation prior to the FDA decision to approve SPF ratings on the labeling. I don’t know about this but with any new foundation the lack of an SPF label may mean that it has no SPF protection or that the label has not been approved yet.

Great swatches! I wonder if Siberia would suit me. Nice to see various fair shades. Sephora lists the ingredients should anyone wish to see them.

  • Nicole January 21, 2015 at 11:33 am

Thank you for this post and the swatches! This foundation caught my eye and I’m considering purchasing, and now I can see which shade I need. Can’t wait to hear more. (P.S. I love your blog! I’m a long-time follower but rarely comment.)

  • Lori J January 21, 2015 at 12:14 pm

I can’t wait to see your thoughts on these. I’m a big fan of NARS tinted moisturizer (Alaska) and though that is the fullest coverage I’ve used ever, I have been considering something more. Your swatches are very useful for me, as I have always been somewhat fearful of foundation!

I am a longtime reader, but I don’t comment enough and want to say I really value your opinions.

  • Gail January 21, 2015 at 2:33 pm

Amy, do you feel that Deauville in this foundation is lighter than Deauville in Sheer Glow, or the same?

    • Amy January 21, 2015 at 2:56 pm

I need to do a comparison–when I do, I’ll post a comparison picture. Hi Gail–they are a pretty good match, but I need to look at them in a better light. I should be able to post a comparison later today.

      • Gail January 21, 2015 at 6:07 pm

        Thanks Amy! 🙂

Aw, thank you so much! 🙂

  • Claire January 21, 2015 at 7:00 pm

So interesting, Amy! Thanks for sharing, I didn’t even realize NARS has another foundation coming out. Gobi is the perfect match for my skin but alas, almost all the existing NARS foundation formulation does not agree w/ my skin. I wonder if this may be a re-incarnation of liquid/watery foundation much like GA Maestro? If you can comment on this on your next blog post (or comparison with GA Maestro — formula-wise, or texture-wise, or even wear, longevity, tendency to ball up, etc.) I’d appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

    • Amy January 21, 2015 at 7:02 pm

Just initially Claire–the GA is oil based as I recall. This Nars is oil free. These are both serum, the NARS has higher coverage. It’s different than GA in many ways–but both are very modern, very different from the liquids of 5-10 years ago.

  • Abby January 21, 2015 at 7:12 pm

I am very excited to try out this foundation. It looks really nice and I love how it comes with a pump!

  • Clever Girl Reviews January 21, 2015 at 7:27 pm

Gobi looks lighter than in the Sheer Glow to me here but it might be the lighting. I think what I will need to is go to the counter and do a half face of Siberia and one of Mont Blanc. Gobi looks too yellow and Deauville looks too peach though not too far off Terra Nueve which is my current best shade match.

  • bisbee January 22, 2015 at 7:31 am

Thank you – love these posts with all of the swatches. I need another foundation like I need a hole in my head…but I think I’ll probably get this one! Mont Blanc looks perfect for me – not in stock yet on Sephora.com, but I’ve signed up to be notified.

    • Amy January 23, 2015 at 7:56 am

It’s starting to show up elsewhere too–Neimans put it up and they have free ship. However, I’ve found Sephora’s ‘in stock’ emails to be very dependable and fast.

      • bisbee January 23, 2015 at 8:00 am

I agree – I’ve been able to pick up quite a few items using their notify-me system!

  • Veronica January 22, 2015 at 2:16 pm

I’m not usually a fan of NARS foundations, but I like the sheerer look of this formula. Mont Blanc is usually my summer shade, but Siberia can be tricky because I find it runs too yellow in some ranges for my winter skin. I’ll be interested to see how it swatches.

  • Dovey January 23, 2015 at 5:07 pm

    Hi Amy,

It’s so exciting to see the new formulation of NARS! I had to let my old Sheer Glow go, since ingredient wise it wasn’t the best match for my skin. That said, I think color and finish wise I love NARS foundations. It’s helpful to see the Deauvilles swatches side by side, as that’s probably what I’d be reaching for!

Maybe I’ll give this one a try… Thanks for the swatches + review 🙂

  • Barbra January 24, 2015 at 11:53 am

    Hi,
please, can you tell me, if is it non comedogenic? I can’t find it. But on the 1st position on ingredients list is Dimethicone, so…
    Thank you

  • Lana Thomas January 27, 2015 at 2:42 am

Do you know if this formula will offer the Siberia shade? I found Siberia in the Sheer Glow at Sephora today & fell in love with the color. It’s so hard to find a color both light enough and neutral. However, I heard that Sheer Glow was being discontinued. Also, do you know if this formula is suitable for very dry skin? Thanks.

    • Amy January 27, 2015 at 6:59 am

      It is offered in Siberia.

  • Dee February 6, 2015 at 1:35 am

Hi Amy. I’m considering purchasing this online (since there aren’t any department stores near me)
Looking at the swatches, Deauville and Ceylan look similar to me with the exception of Deaville being more peachy and Ceylan much more yellow. However their website describes Deaville as a light and Ceylan as medium. How different would you say these colors are?

    • Amy February 9, 2015 at 10:17 pm

Deauville is closer to NC15, Ceylan is closer to NC20-25. It’s significant. The foundation is so high-coverage that these differences really do make a big difference. Sheer foundations are much more forgiving.
