Tarte Taupe brow gel 2Ever since I used a Tarte Park Avenue Princess all the way to pan a few years ago, I’ve been waiting to fall in love with another product in the line. Although I’ve lingered over the display, I took the plunge to try Tarte’s Colored Clay Tinted Brow Gel Tarte Colored Clay Brow Tinted Brow Gel ($21). This came really, really close. There was so much to love about the product.

Tarte Taupe brow gel 4I chose the color “Taupe” after trying the product in my local Sephora, where the lighting is a bit spotty. Overall, the format of the product is convenient–a mascara-like tube with a tiny tiny tiny tiny brush.

This brush gave me a very natural look.  The tiny size ensures that its easy to get into the brow area with precision. Although it takes a little extra time, my results after using this for a week were entirely clump-free (the formula is on the dry side). The color coverage is excellent and long-wearing. Although I didn’t formally test it’s “waterproof” claim, I got all day wear in 100+ degree temperatures and through my cardio workouts. It didn’t last through a facial (obviously, nothing will).

So far, so good!  For me, the downfall was the hint of red in the Taupe formula. In my experience, there are only a handful of lines that keep all red tones out of their taupe eyebrow products–Tom Ford, Nars, and Shu Uemura (there may be more, but those are the ones that I’ve found so far). The red tint is ever so lightly noticeable–if your hair runs chestnut, this may be ideal for you (in fact, the line should probably re-name this “Chestnut” and then come out with a true taupe.  I’d love to see it.
