Couture is best viewed up close, without question. But for those of us lacking front row seat privileges at Chanel Couture 2015, online images are the next best thing.
On July 5, 2011, Chanel showed its Fall-Winter 2011-12 Couture Collection at the Grand Palais in Paris, France. Unlike other shows, this one started at 10:00 p.m., in keeping with the show’s theme of the starry night. The stage was set with a stylized reproduction of the monument from the Place Vendome topped by a statute of Coco Chanel. The ceiling had subtle lights to resemble stars. The interior of the Grand Palais was darkened, highlighted with neon accents and twinkled like Paris at night. In a whimsical touch, the models wore sheer lace masks over their eyes. Some wore illuminated lights on their shoes that seemed to simulate headlights on the city streets.
The clothes had a touch of sparkle and shine–many blacks, an occasional bright violet-fuchsia, and a touch of sheen to nearly everything.
This look captures many of the trends seen in Paris tonight–the classic Chanel jacket shape, the use of the peplum, longer lengths, boots and fingerless gloves.
