Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able Foundation - 3a

Marc Jacobs Beauty has been re-formulating so many products from the line since it launched. I’m a fan of new innovation, so I’ve kept an eye on the line. For the past month or so, I’ve had some time to play with the new Marc Jacobs Beauty Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation ($55) and wanted to write down some thoughts.

Note that with the high coverage means that getting the right color is important. If you are a half-shade off, you will notice. The Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able foundation does not seem to have any self-color-correcting properties. Fortunately, the Re(marc)able foundation as a range of 24 shades.  It took me a few samples to determine that Ivory Medium was a good match for my skin tone (MAC NC15/20, Chanel Ivoire, NARS Deauville).

There are good reasons to have a full coverage foundation in your beauty arsenal. There may be days when “flawless” is the name of the game. Sometimes that type of coverage goes with a formal occasion, or when you simply want to give an absolutely perfect surface. Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able gives you that kind of coverage, and it lasts all day.

I will say that, although the packaging and wand evoke a serum-type vibe, this liquid has a slightly thicker texture than other serums. However, you really do not need much product to get full, full coverage. In fact, before I bought this full-sized bottle, I used a tiny sample from Sephora that I used for two full weeks and there was plenty of it left ov

Assuming that you’ve found your shade, let’s talk about application.

First of all, the foundation delivers on full coverage. In fact, one drop or (maybe two?) is all you need to get full, full, full coverage. For me, it was little easy to over-apply, especially with fingers. You have to be a little careful.  Too much as this goes to a mask-like quality that isn’t necessarily flattering. But with a tiny bit buffed into the skin, the look is both full coverage and closer to natural.

I used the Marc Jacobs Beauty The Face III Buffing Foundation Brush ($55), which worked well. The foundation definitely benefits from being buffed into the skin. I like the fact that the brush is duo-fibre, which helps give more natural coverage. I love the overall size and bulk of the brush as well.  It covers quickly, given its generous size.

Re(marc)able foundation gives long, all-day near-matte coverage. Anything this tenacious needs a serious remover. I use an oil cleanser, clarisonic and toner at the end of the day.

The foundation works well with finishing powders of all kinds, so if you need to add a little bronzer and glow you are all set. I found that this full-coverage formula benefited from adding a little shadow contour and highlight to add dimension to the face.

Here are some thoughts with comparisons:

  • Marc Jacobs Beauty Re(marc)able foundation is the highest coverage foundation that I’ve used in a long time.  It covers absolutely everything without exception.
  • Nars All-Day Luminous foundation does not have this high coverage out the bottle. The Nars requires building to get there. On the other hand, Nars feels a bit lighter, and does not seem to emphasize pores as easily.
  • MAC Watertight foundation has much lighter coverage, and has a glow. By comparison, Re(marc)able covers much more strongly, does not feel as light, and has a satin/matte finish.

Is this foundation for you? I was surprised how much I reached for Re(marc)able for presentations and meetings over the past few weeks. It is nice to know that everything was covered and flawless for hour after hour.  I always wore this foundation with bronzer and highlight to give it very natural look. I want to emphasize that buffing this foundation into the skin is important, although left by itself the product seems to look more natural as the product warms to your skin and the day goes on.  It plays really nicely with Guerlain, Armani, and Chanel powers, and I assume that it will work with many others as well.

Overall, I’m very impressed with Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able. It’s beautifully formulated. Whether you wish to explore it depends on whether you want this type of coverage. Of the high-coverage options I’ve ever tried, I’ve got to give it the highest rating for this category. Five stars.
