Nars Fall 2012 brings us two new eyeshadow palettes. Nars High Society Eyeshadow Trio ($45/ limited edition) is a deep mix of three medium-to-deep jewel tones.  Nars Vente Glace Eyeshadow Duo ($34) is a light-toned cool silver and light green which act as shimmery light tones. Both palettes are deconstructed, unconventional and edgy. Unlike many multi-toned palettes, High Society has three deep tones. Nars Vent Glace has two shimmery light tones. I found that the palettes work well together–sisters, of a type–and so I’m reviewing them together.

Here are the deep swatches of Nars High Society, which is the star product of the Nars Fall 2012 collection:

The Nars Vent Glace duo is in the familiar palette format with two light shades. This reminded me of the Nars All About Eve duo, in that it’s geared to give a tonal effect. Both shades of Nars Vent Glace are light and shimmery:

Here are swatches of the Nars Vent Glace duo. Here, I compare it to a more traditional, multi-tonal duo, the Chanel Khaki Clair. I also found the closest colors in my collection were some discontinued Shu Uemura singles (a cool silver ME Silver 950 and a shimmery mossy green ME Silver 851):

Another, same order:

Here, we combined the two palettes in this look on Liz.  We used the left (silvery) side of Vent Glace on the inner portion of the eye, together with the violet shade on the outer corners of the eye:

Steps:

  • Nars Undress Me Multiple as an eyeshadow base, up to the brows
  • Left side of Vent Glace duo on the inner half of the eye, blended with the Edward Bess Luxury Eye Brush
  • Violet color of Nars High Society trio, blended on the outer half of the eye with the Edward Bess Luxury Eye Brush

Here’s a overall look with the same eyeshadow combination. We also used other products from the Nars Fall 2012 collection, including Nars Outlaw Blush, Nars Undress Me Mutliple, and Autumn Leaves lipstick.

The Nars High Society Eyeshadow Trio, Outlaw blush, Nars Undress Me Multiple, Autumn Leaves Lipstick, and Vent Glace Duo were sent to Cafe Makeup without charge for consideration and review.

NARS Fall 2012 has just released images for Fall 2012 and this collection looks stunning. Designed by founder and Creative Director François Nars, the Fall 2012 Color Collection features a blend of bold, modern shades and celestial shimmers. The colors look luxuriously wearable, and still entirely unique. According to NARS:

Icy shimmer enhances modern colors to create a stunning, ethereal effect. Eyes are piercing in smoky jewel tones accented with lavender and amethyst sparkle. Skin glows subtly in nearly nude pink with a whisper of silver. Lips are strong in striking metallics or soft in warm brandy and rose shades. Grey nails lend final sophistication to a look that’s exhilarating, evocative, and, as always, strictly NARS.

This is a gorgeous mix of warm and cool shades–I love the look of the lip products, the multiple and the palettes. Let’s take a closer look:

High Society Eyeshadow Trio ($45): Three aristocratic shades—lavender, matte forest green, and iridescent amethyst—can be mixed and matched to create a near limitless range of options. Wear each alone or use one as base, another to highlight, and the third as a liner.

NARS Undress Me Multiple ($39):  A nearly nude pink with silver shimmer.

NARS Storm Bird Nail Polish ($18):  A “moody grey nail polish.”

NARS More Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil ($24):  The shiny Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in a universally flattering auburn can be worn alone or over a Lip Pencil for a more distinct effect.

NARS Vent Glace Duo Eye Shadow ($34): I am so excited for this one. French for “icy wind,” this Duo Eyeshadow features a stormy combination of platinum and silver smoke. Wear each shade solo, layered, or one as a base and the other as a highlight for a seductive, frosted effect.  Incredible!!

NARS Autumn Leaves Lipstick ($24): This translucent but long-wearing Sheer Lipstick in an elegant, glistening brandy is as warm as the fall foliage that inspired it.

NARS Outlaw Blush ($28): I’m so happy that this blush is back (psssst! Outlaw’s back!! It’s back!) A soft rose tone Blush laced with golden shimmer for a dangerously alluring flush.

NARS Rouge Tribal Larger Than Life Lip Gloss ($26):  This one looks shockingly rich. In a gorgeous kind of way. Vivid color and a long-lasting finish make this metallic burgundy Larger Than Life Lip Gloss a bold accent to any cool weather look. Oh, hello, jewel toned lips!!

Amsterdam Pure Matte Lipstick ($25): This garnet red Pure Matte Lipstick (named for the largest city in, and capital of, the Netherlands) delivers long-wearing color and a comfortable finish.

–>Q&A WITH FRANÇOIS NARS ABOUT THE FALL 2012 COLLECTION:

What is the mood of the Fall 2012 Color collection? Sophisticated, modern, edgy… It’s perhaps an unexpected mix of colors and textures that, together, signal a fresh new take on fall color.

What are the must-have products for fall? The Trio Eyeshadow, definitely. High Society is the centerpiece of the collection and supplies countless looks. I also love the Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil because it’s the perfect marriage of lipstick and gloss: great color and super-moisturizing but not ever sticky. The new shade, More, is an extremely flattering auburn that will look good on everyone. And, of course, the Undress Me Multiple—it’s a beautiful color and really a multi-functional product.

Lavender shimmer seems, at first glance, more of a spring or summery shade. How do you make it appropriate for fall? The pairing of lavender with forest green absolutely takes it from a warm weather color to one appropriate for cooler seasons. Also, as it’s a shimmer, there’s an icy quality to it that I equate with cooler temperatures. I’ve always felt strongly that there should be few rules when it comes to makeup, and this is a good example of that philosophy. Lavender shimmer can be worn beautifully any time of the year.

The new Undress Me Multiple is gorgeous. Can you suggest some ways to use it? All our Multiples can be worn on eyes, cheeks, and lips, under and over foundation, and pretty much any other way you can imagine. Undress Me, in particular, is beautiful in the hollow of the cheeks. It also makes a wonderful highlight for brow and cheekbones, as well as a glowing base for eyes and lip color.

Well, beautiful reader, what do you think?
